I suspected as much, not making a carrot and just ticking over. Probably needs a large amount of finance that just is not available in these present times.

Freedom4 spreads WiMax love to students
Wireless going further in Warwickshire...

By Natasha Lomas

Published: 16 July 2008 17:09 BST

The company, formerly known as Pipex Wireless, has made Warwickshire College its learning partner - so students can now make use of its WiMax network and, it hopes, learn more about the tech.

Warwick is one of three cities in the UK to have a commercial WiMax network from Freedom4, along with Manchester and Milton Keynes. WiMax can deliver high speed internet access without the need for wires or a fixed BT line. It also offers faster upload speeds than traditional ADSL and is simple to install, according to Freedom4.

A spokesman for Freedom4 said Warwick's commercial network went live back in May. Coverage currently includes the Leamington Spa, Tachbrook Park, Whitnash and Woodloes Park areas.

Brendan O'Rourke, chief operating officer of Freedom4, said the company believes the education sector can substantially benefit from the tech.

College principal, Ioan Morgan, said in a statement: "The College has a tradition of working with cutting edge companies in every sector, ranging from engineering to computer games manufacturers.

"New technologies are the cornerstone of the knowledge economy. One of the key drivers to success in this area is learning. It is therefore appropriate that Freedom4... and the College establish this new partnership to bring further benefit to the area."

Hard to tell - customer numbers have not been released for any of the roll-out areas, neither have the terms of the reseller agreements with Mumtel (for Manchester) and Konnex (Warwick). Remember also that F4G only has a 52% stake in F4, so you can halve any estimates.

The fact that the current share price is about the size of the loan notes and sale money due apparently to be returned in a year's time tells you that the market agrees with growthhunter [grin].

FREEDOM4 Expands Warwickshire WiMAX Coverage

FREEDOM4, a WiMAX offering broadband wireless ISP, has teamed up with Warwickshire College as its learning partner and local reseller Konnex Networks to enhance its offering of WiMAX in the Warwick and Leamington Spa area:

Warwick District Council Chief Executive, Chris Elliot, adds, "As an acknowledged excellent Council, we work hard to offer a first class service, at lowest cost to the taxpayer. As part of delivering our many and varied public services, technology plays an increasingly important role. It is within this context that we have embraced the use of WiMAX in our work, especially for home and mobile workers. The Council is please to see how these benefits are now being made readily available to business communities, the voluntary sector and local residents across the District."

Brendan O'Rourke, Chief Operating Officer at FREEDOM4 states, "We are delighted to have teamed up with Warwickshire College and see the partnership as an important step in the development of our offering in the local area. Education is a sector that we feel can really gain from having WiMAX and are looking forward to working together for the benefit of the local community."
FREEDOM4, Konnex Networks and Warwickshire College are offering local businesses the chance to see WiMAX in action and find out more about the technology and its benefits with an event on 17th July at the Trident Technology and Business Centre in Warwick.
