05/3/2021 11:34 | Because it is not a commitment of any kind by the Govt. to reform business rates, Mike Ashley would like to see tangible statements of intent. This would enable retailers to plan some way in to the future, rather than twelve months down the pipe. I am surprised he has not rationalised his store estate already, with more shops closing there is little reason to bother going to some town centres as an experience, and restaurants within large town and city centres will really feel the dearth of people on the street. Places like Harrogate and York are now littered with empty store fronts, and they both have pleasant visitor experiences to offer. There are still nice stores backed by smaller multiples, but the larger chains are diminished such as Debs. and Topshop to name two, both of the aforementioned having those empty units. | bookbroker | |
