23/6/2001 23:47 | Hi I rarely post, but Ashley is typical of people who can't get their head round a subject, so resort to slagging off. Ashley, I traded currencies for years for an investment bank from a screen, pure momentum technical analysis. For the last six years have traded full time from home mostly options and now USF's. You might not like it, but just because it ain't your style doesn't mean it can't work for others. | chartist
23/6/2001 23:00 | Doing in depth research into the fundamentals of a company is one way of investing. BUT it not the only way, I tend to use trend analysis and look for anomalies, ie company's that me be to cheap or to expensive within a sector. Going short in ICI after the profits warning by BASF in Germany last week was a good example. This method may not suite you and you may find it boring but I find it profitable. Ashley you talk about people being on an EGO trip but a look in the mirror some time and also you may find a more open mind on other people's inesting methods may help you in the future. | crocodile
23/6/2001 22:54 | OK sincere apologies, you dishonourable scoundrel :-) | kayak
23/6/2001 22:27 | Kayak, I take umbrage at being referred to either as honourable, or as a gentleman, please can you apologise OK I delete the word must, and replace with a big, juicy pretty PLEASE! Cheers Ash | mr ashley james
23/6/2001 22:18 | I refer the honourable gentleman to the PPS in his post no. 72 :-) | kayak
23/6/2001 22:17 | Kayak, Not at all, I do not want the BB to change, although all things in life innevitably do, I am just pointing out that a considerable number of BB readers find this BB dull because MOST POSTERS just talk about trades in and out (yawn), with no indepth research on the companies themselves! That, for ADVFN, is bad for business IMHO! Best regards Ashley | mr ashley james
23/6/2001 22:16 | Actually guys Ashley does have some valid points in his last posting but I'm sure there are better ways of highlighting it. | scripophilist
23/6/2001 22:14 | I've got to say, Ashley, it sounds like you want this BB to change just to accommodate your style of investment, now that is being even more big headed than the poster previously known as Addo :-) | kayak
23/6/2001 22:10 | Gausie, ADF is a highly exiting share called Abbey National, the patron saint of the Premium Bulletin Board, yawn! SC, Fair enough, I would not take umbrage at anything so minor as that, I was being polite! Being serious for a second I am not a trader, trading IMHO is a fools game, unless you like market makers or the IR getting rich, this short termism drives me up the wall! Basically, the good thing about Mining/Oil and Gas shares is you can actually calculate their POTENTIAL value based on known data, must of us do not guess at fair value (apart from those messing about with rubbish like most TMT and/or biotech shares, now that is gambling IMHO.) So in a recessionary climate, we know approximately what a company is worth. Now that helps if you want to invest in it, so I personally see no need to trade in and out, just looking at chart patterns. Charts do not understand drilling programmes, nor geology! In fact all charts tell you is what other people are doing,(mostly stampeding in or out) and I quite frankly do not give a damn what one million lemmings do! To me charts are for lemmings that need other people to hold their hands when they invest! Come on, investment is about fundamentals, future profits and how much you are prepared, based on market averages to pay for that future growth (or in the case of most TMT's lack of growth)potential! Personally I think there are more brains on FBB than on PBB, big egos here, but not so many who really IMHO have bothered to really research a company's real intrinsic value! What is more important with a Natural Resources stock, the level of reserves and resources in the ground or the bloody relative strength index? Best regards Ashley | mr ashley james
23/6/2001 21:58 | Ashley "Must" implies compulsion. Posters (traders and long(er) term investors) are free agents and do as they please! regards Roland | rolandp
23/6/2001 21:53 | DCB, Chill! Cheers Ashley | mr ashley james
23/6/2001 21:33 | Ash I limit my fundamental research to trying to find the right EPIC code for the company I'm interseted in. It's not much, but it's a start. And it's pretty fundamental :-) Changing the subject, who is the 'ADF' you refer to in the header? Gausie | gausie
23/6/2001 21:20 | Ashley - I am trying to be level headed about your motives. Your thread header post indicates you are leaving the PBB - "Good Bye" etc. Yet you have chosen to respond to those who have chosen to take umbrage at your remarks. If you have a grudge against certain pbb members then why are you taking offence at everyone else. Your best response to those who offend you is to stay silent. Why do you rise to the bait so often. You are probably the most regular poster over both bb's - ie you post more times than anyone else, particularly about your pet E & P stocks. QED you are going to get the most flack. As a poster on this board I take umbrage at being called the names you choose to call us. It is totally unnecessary and offensive. My patronising advice to you is to spend more time dealing and less time posting reams of research which only you can qualify and which as often or not turns out to be useless for making any money. yours etc. SC | swingclub
23/6/2001 20:56 | Ashley James, I don't fully understand your gripe against the pbb. You obviously feel that you were not given the attention/respect that you deserved. Well, tough. Any BB is a self regulating entity and the general gist of most posts is what most peole feel comfortable with. The leaning of the pbb is towards the technical, but there are some great fundamentalist posters, such as the Count, who have generated enormous respect. If you feel the pbb is cliquey, then go to some of the social gatherings. These are where we have all met each other, then is no secret initiation ceremony. Just turn up and chat. I have found that the pbb is enormously supportive in every respect whether it be personal or financial. The reason that you have not probably lies within yourself. I would urge anyone who wants to to give the pbb a trial, you will find that if you are a welcoming sort of person, you will be given a warm welcome. If you don't like it after a month, then fair enough. dcb | dead cat bounce
23/6/2001 19:30 | Mickie B, I told you controversy always works! LOL Ashley PS I hope Gausie is not shorting CER LOL PPS The PBB must now make an effort to be more company research minded and make the BB more interesting to us poor fundamental long term investors | mr ashley james

23/6/2001 18:34 | --Rayarac Either me getting above my station or my interpretation that the BB belongs to it's members, (if we don't post, it don't exist scenario). As for the name, why not SBB - Subscribers BB Cheers WR | wildrover
23/6/2001 18:31 | MBB is good by me :-) | kayak
23/6/2001 18:22 | We! WR? This does seem to confirm my suspicions somewhat. What Martini says does make me think the 'Premium' title should be changed, the SBB looks a better fit though! :) jACK (superior? my eye)) | rayrac
23/6/2001 17:16 | just like to add, as a total novice i am more than pleased to pay for l2 which includes pbb i find it very imformative, best regards l.l. | lancslad
