Staggered at the lack of read across from the GM LAC deal. This is the best lithium asset in Europe and offtake discussions must be nearing a deal but the shares are dead in the water. Place your bets

Interesting note out from Edison where they talk about the Lithium market and the huge demand and investment required. They had forecast long term prices(post 2031) of $17000 a tonne now revised to $22500, the $17000 figure is the one quoted in EMH’s PFS.

There seems to be more buying here at the mo, little risk (political, infrastructure, transportation, permitting and now with EU backing probably financing). Still adding…

Think the GM LAC deal will get a lot more coverage in Oz where there is a much bigger lithium investor base. Added more here and might add a few US $ stock ahead of Oz opening. Watching the LAC reaction

GM putting $650m into a lithium resource in USA.

DETROIT AND VANCOUVER – General Motors Co. (NYSE: GM) and Lithium Americas Corp. (TSX: LAC and NYSE: LAC) announced today they will jointly invest to develop the Thacker Pass mine in Nevada, which is the largest known source of lithium in the United States and the third largest in the world.

...Under the agreement, GM will make a $650 million equity investment in Lithium Americas, which represents the largest-ever investment by an automaker to produce battery raw materials. Lithium Americas estimates the lithium extracted and processed from the project can support production of up to 1 million EVs per year.

Yes, this is the first of several key announcements according to the CEO. He sounds frustrated about EU dithering too

Quite often newsflow comes in flurries with these types of investments. Often because one rns might be dependent on a earlier one happening first. Let's hope this is a start of a few good news stories coming out of emh.

Getting the mine operational will take far longer than VW car/battery plants, so the EU/EMH better get a wiggle on...

This RNS is welcome, but while the grant is welcome the more significant bit imo is the strong indication of National and Regional support for the project. In terms of VW plans I thought the election result more important given Babis history of being a bit cavalier in approach. Pavel winning steadies the ship, has been little commented on, and I feel is very good news. But I do wonder whether anything is possible until we get clarity on permitting. The quarterly report due tomorrow may give an indication, but of course any significant news also requires a RNS.

Todays news obviously helpful. But I suspect the rally will be short lived given the ongoing uncertainty over VWs Czech plans. Until that is resolved and offtake and funding plans emerge, shares likely to drift which is frustrating

Conclusion of Today's WH Ireland note...

WHI View: Todays news shows that the EU takes the potential of Cinovec seriously – as a large local enterprise benefiting the local economy, but also as a domestic supplier of raw materials to a demand-hungry EV industry in the EU, with few domestic rivals. With the grant being non-repayable it also offers a non-dilutive chunk of initial capital for the JV partners. The EU is beginning the journey for a full life-cycle of domestic raw material supply, through all chemical stages to final end use and then recycling; which we view as a prudent way to reduce risks of shortages. Cinovec makes good economic sense with low costs of production, other net revenue streams from by-product credits, expansion upside and integrated production from mine to chemical, without any intermediary companies. At our long-term lithium hydroxide price ($14,000/t – significantly below current spot) we see fair value of 184p/sh with our fair value still conservatively risked for stage. We will look to review this shortly in line with current forecasts of lithium pricing and our own view of any capital cost"
