And here are the comments about restoration of Holmwood within 18 weeks ...

SUMMARY REPORT

Land at Bury Hill Wood, off Coldharbour Lane, Holmwood, Surrey RH5 6HN

Details of a Traffic Management Scheme pursuant to Condition 19 of appeal ref: APP/B3600/A/11/2166561 dated 7 August 2015.

"Officers are mindful of the temporary and short term nature of the development proposal given it is in association with the exploratory wellsite which is limited to a period of 18 weeks. Furthermore the site would be reinstated and restored to forestry use on cessation of operations returning the site to a woodland setting."

"Officers consider that the short term harm caused to the AONB and immediate landscape character and visual amenities by this proposal when viewed as a change to the original Appeal Decision, is clearly outweighed by the short term duration and temporary nature of the proposal alongside the need for the fencing to be in place to ensure that the exploratory wellsite proposal keeps to the 18 week timetable."

Spotted this about UKOG in the reporting pack for Wednesday's SCC meeting ....

SUMMARY REPORT

Horse Hill 1 Well Site, Horse Hill, Hookwood, Horley, Surrey RH6 0RB

The retention of the existing exploratory well site and vehicular access onto Horse Hill; the appraisal and further flow testing of the existing borehole (Horse Hill-1) for hydrocarbons, including the drilling of a (deviated) sidetrack well and flow testing for hydrocarbons;

"The policy position is to restore mineral sites to an appropriate Green Belt use as soon as is practicable. The applicant intends the site to be restored at the end of the appraisal operations to agriculture and woodland, both of which are beneficial and appropriate Green Belt uses, and the scheme retains measures for increasing biodiversity value of the site through the provision of bat and bird boxes. Officers consider that the proposal should enable high environmental standards to be maintained and the site to be well restored. Accordingly, the proposal meets the policy requirements for mineral development in the Green Belt."

Who's kidding who then?

Thanks and Thanks Again

This time next week we may be up up and away with Holmwood. As my copied post from LSE indicates the chances are that the Kimmeridge could be more prolific in Holmwood than even HH due to it being an anti-cline and therefore more fractured. Something to look forward to....

Yes Rogerlin - a conundrum of sorts for EOG and EDR. EOG onshore licence area is adjacent to EDRs offshore licence and vice versa. They are good friends though and I guess a deal could be done. 10 months and counting for the Ravenspurn drill - they must have found something!

Slide 12, Resolution prospect, it looks as if Egdon are thinking of drilling offshore, getting to be less aggravation these days.

Maxwell's Silver Hammer?

Sooner or later Perenco/BP will finish their much heralded Ravenspurn North drill. 10 months in and counting. It has significant relationship to our Maxwell field which could possibly be drilled from onshore reducing costs considerably.

From UpstreamOnline...

The UK's southern North Sea is dotted with numerous tight gas producing fields, some of which have been producing for more than 40 years, writes Rob Watts.

The majority of tight gas fields in the Lower Permian Rotliegendes sandstones can be found within Sole Pit, the major inversion axis within the Southern North Sea Basin, where average permeabilities can be as low as one millidarcy.

However, fields on the fringes of the main Aeolian basin with sabkha dominated reservoirs outside Sole Pit can also be tight.

According to Westwood Global Energy Group (WGEG), more than 40 undeveloped discoveries have been drilled in the UK southern basin with tight gas Permian and Carboniferous reservoirs, holding total estimated resources of 2.4 trillion cubic feet.

Only eight of these discoveries have initial resources of over 100 billion cubic feet, says Dave Moseley, WGEG’s manager for north-west Europe.

Much of the total resource in the tight gas play was found prior to the turn of the millennium, with only 600 Bcf discovered between 2000 and 2016, partly reflecting the overall reduction in exploration drilling in the UK gas basin, Moseley believes.

Of the discoveries, approximately 50% are held under licence, with the remainder lying on open acreage.

These unlicensed discoveries are expected to be made available in the forthcoming 30th Round.

The operators of the licensed discoveries range from supermajors, such as ConocoPhillips, to small private companies holding previously awarded ‘promote licences’, such as OK Energy and Arenite Petroleum.

Many of the early discoveries in the Carboniferous were classed as tight, but modern 3D seismic data assisted in identifying sands with better properties, such as in the CMS (Caister Murdoch) area.

Where developed in any thickness, the Zechstein carbonates are generally tight and only a couple of fields, such as Wissey, sustained any meaningful production, but were short-lived.

Tight gas fields generally require some form of stimulation from acid wash, through acid frac in vertical wells to extended reach horizontal wells with multistage massive sand propped fracs, such as at Clipper South.

Clipper South and Ensign, operated by Ineos and Centrica, respectively, were both brought on-stream in 2012 with initial reserves of 210 Bcf and 31 Bcf, respectively.

Clipper South has performed particularly well, whereas the Ensign field has underperformed significantly, reports WGEG.

Looking forward, the future development potential of tight gas discoveries appears to be limited, Moseley believes.

Cluff Natural Resources, a small publicly listed UK company, is attempting to progress two tight Zechstein discoveries, though it is having to seek third party funding in order to drill a proof of concept well.

Reduced exploration activity in the region means the addition of new tight gas discoveries is currently limited.

However, BP, with partners Perenco and Premier, is currently drilling a heavily deviated well targeting the Namurian to the south of the Ravenspurn field, which if successful has the potential to open up a new tight gas play in the region.

A sidetrack to the initial well, which spudded in December 2016, is currently drilling.

Very positive for the Oil Price. Doesn't mention the double whammy of rising exploration costs versus lack of capital expenditure on exploration these last few years. Ripple effect could see us back to $100 a barrel. Then we will be thanking North Lincs for letting us keep the oil in the ground a bit longer! ;-)

Exactly Rogerlin - I think understanding why and when Shell pulled out is the key to why further exploration was not carried out. Opened some very lucky doors for EOG, Faroe and now Nexen.

The well is 18/20-7

If you go here hxxp://gis.dcenr.gov.ie/internetIPAS/servlet/internet/IPAS2IOffshoreWellsSearch and search for Slyne Basin in Area field you get all the wells drilled to date there. Check them all on the table and map and you will see the location.

Click on 18/20-7 and you will see it is only one of two wells mapped whose results are not listed .. the other a Serica well much further south.

Confusingly the original discovery seems to have been called Corrib North.

"There are several other prospects on the exploration license that could further extend the life of the assets if successfully drilled and completed. The Corrib North prospect is being considered for drilling in 2010 after recently obtaining partner approval".

Jusmasel is the "Corrib North" the Shell drill you refer to? It is as if all reference to this has been erased by the Ministry of Truth.

Jus,

I'd be surprised by that if its the case. Extensive natural fractures can occur also in fault blocks and stratigraphic carbonate reservoirs. Unless they're referring to extremely highly fractured naturally flowing wells like HH-1 only. As its really the exception to the rule given what it flowed on initial test, its top end liquid producer of any carbonate that I've come across in all my years as an O&G investor.

Regards,
Ed.

Hi

As you have pointed out before Ed I am out of my depth as far as discussing Geology goes so I can't comment on the content of the post I posted. However! There is always a however! I can comment on who wrote it. Not sure if it is the husband or the wife, but both are very well known to the board of EOG if you get my drift.

Perhaps as you say Holmwood will be one of the final pieces in the jigsaw of the Weald Kimmeridge play and will expand everybody's knowledge of how best to develop it.

Cheers
