Judi,
You're right, they do forward plan and one of the many things they would assess is the Brent oil forward curves going out maybe 5+ years.
The starting point for the forward curve is today's spot price.
I guarantee that a forward curve starting at $70 is going to look far more enticing for a potential JV partner, than a curve that starts at $40.

Jem,
As you well know investors forward plan
So whatever the price of oil is currently has no real bearing on any deals
Obviously a current higher oil price does us no harm but it won’t affect any long term deals imho
Happy for us to be heading towards 7p but let’s see if we crack it and importantly stay above it and then see where we head

600,000 buy shown up after hours. Tomorrow looks like we will crack that 7p resistance.

Volume is decent, the boards and groups are busy with people talking about EME, another blue day, and another day closer to news. Must be time for a beer in the garden. Happy days

Your post may have been tongue in cheek - but I'll bite!
With the greatest of respect, of course the Brent price and associated forward price curve matters, when it comes to negotiating a potential JV.

As a generalisation, when Brent was about $30, 14 months ago, the world of JV's stopped. End of story.
When the price eventually started to creep back above $40, then calls were made to potential JV partners with cash, which were only answered when the price got up to $50.
At $60, proposals were discussed in detail and now, at $70, there is excitement again.
It's not the be all and end all, but if Tom is trying to get a JV away, I'd rather the oil price was $70 than $40.

(I agree 7p is being troublesome for the moment but one RNS about progress in Indo, or news that a rig deal has been signed would leave that resistance well behind).
