IC recommends ESP still a "Buy" after the announcements this week. It's one of their recent tips.

One of my brokers (advisory) suggests taking up the allocation but no more: "due to the macro backdrop for the UK at the moment".

Clausentum - That's a very fair point!

Once the share price goes xd and the 1.5p dividend is deducted it appears we could be back at the new issue price of 107.5p, in which case is there any point in taking up the offer of new shares?

Yes, you're right there! I suppose they have one thing in common: payment up front!

But if Hello Student moves 5% to the bottom line - which is what they say it will do - then it's better than hello sailor which just implies a single night's rise

Launch of "Hello Student". It sounds too close to "Hello Sailor" for my taste.

Largest holding in both SIPP & ISA. Agree with Wirral regarding NAV update providing the next catalyst.
Kicking myself for not adding further during pull back last week

Yep, very happy to continue holding too. NAV update at the end of the quarter should provide another boost to the share price

Half-Year-end trading statement. What we'll get in due course is the property valuation. This is important for me as I don't want to see their portfolio fall in value at a time when they want to raise more bank debt.

Looking at cost/bed, at 30 June, the portfolio had cost £59,000 /bed and was valued at £72,000 /bed, whilst the most recent purchases (858 beds) had cost £112,000 /bed. (I know I'm blending completed and development assets.) The growth rate looks - maybe? - unsustainable.

Expected dividends of 6p are in line with earlier projections and the latest quarterly payment.

About £108k per bed. That looks much in line with other recent purchases, though 5-bed suites ought to lower the value a bit. On the other hand, as said, it's producing income from the off.

The £250m (?) Mansion Student Accommodation Fund has been in liquidation for nearly two years now. Apparently Mansion is in "exclusive talks" with a single potential buyer. Empiric has, of course, big expansion ambitions but the recent share issue was the last in its current programme. Possibly Empiric, though not probably?

Yes, May wants to hang on to students as a means of 'getting tough'. Never mind that students aren't immigrants, or that the vast majority of people appreciate this, or that foreign students are key to the whole UK higher education system and government efforts at so called soft power (they prefer the soft-in-the-head power that is overseas aid).

It's utterly demented and very, very British.

Let's hope sense prevails.

Foreign students could be excluded from official migration figures, George Osborne has indicated, in a move that would see the total number of declared migrants in the UK fall but could lead to claims that the Government is attempting to massage the statistics.

Important, because resticting foreign student numbers is the easiest way for a government to get the raw figures down if it desperately needs to.

This move could, of course, lead to a significant increase in foreign student numbers. (70% of ESP's population.)

Bearbull in IC prefers ESP to PHP for 1% better yield. PCTN was also mentioned.
