LONDON--Commodities trading giant Trafigura Beheer B.V. has formed a joint venture with Abu Dhabi's sovereign wealth fund to invest in mines producing copper, zinc and other base metals amid a broad commodities price slump.
As part of the deal, Abu Dhabi's Mubadala Development Company has acquired a 50% stake in Trafigura's Spanish mining business. The companies did not disclose financial details of the deal, which was first announced back in June.
Commodities traders like Trafigura have historically acted as middle men, specializing in moving industrial goods around the world, but they are increasingly investing in mines and logistical assets to support their trading operation.
However, the logic of traders owning production assets has been called into question in recent months amid a rout in the share price of mining and trading giant Glencore PLC, as slumping commodities prices buffeted its mining business.

It's not the desperate that have sold LP, folks just get fed up and move on to other opportunities. And an idiot is someone that blindly follows his plan without the ability or inclination to change tack if things change or don't work out. That's not you is it ?

Of course in a normal market that appreciates on pending news the share price would have increased into the current events. I have said many times that I have been constantly surprised that I could buy at 3.5p and that I have taken 3 x times my original expectation on the low prices whilst the desperate sold. I am very glad it has played out this way and the risks I saw at 12p are just not here at 4p so I am in no rush to sell. I did not think I would get this opportunity and I have taken it as it was presented.
So yes it did not play out how I thought it would; it has turned out so much better with the poor market conditions and the poor commodity prices. The company changing events are now in motion and the value will come although it is hard won. I do not really care how I get the return but if I am just looking to make £100k now the share price has to rise to just 6.75p not the 12p+ I originally envisaged. However I expect to make multiples of that.

The fact that this play did not turn out as I thought does not make me an idiot. If I were an idiot then I would have just sat and waited; whinging and moaning on this board as many did. I choose to do something about it and to take more. I now think I am rather well placed at an average below 4p and a very large holding.
