A little bit of volume at 32p...wonder why anybody would be buying at that price unless they thought there was a chance of a counter-bid. Surely not?

Good to see a bit of commonsense. My choice would be Sept, a month into the new season.

Mind you, if CM was going to have a minimal impact on this FY, why release it in Apr in the first place? Either it was incompetence, or TRU has been performing better than expected since Xmas, particularly the PS2 version.

Anyway, I'm glad to see the back of an independent Eidos. I think they'll fare better under Square's control and with their financial muscle. I'll use some of the Eidos receipts to invest in Square (may as well share in some of their upside!).

PS. From Eurogamer:

"We'll get onto Eidos shortly this morning to try and nail down a new release date.

Update: "Eidos has not announced a release date for Championship Manager 09 as yet." Given that it was clearly nearly ready though, we'd be surprised if it didn't make it some time before Football Manager, which traditionally releases later in the year."

I suspect it will be Sept then, as FM usually comes out in Oct from memory.

Definitely the right thing to do (if they're not going to sell the CM franchise which would have been my choice).

Doubtless, Football Manager will take the "best" release date but plenty of other times better than April.

LoC, Eidos listened to you. :-)
From RNS:
"..we have decided to delay the release of Championship Manager from April 2009 to ensure we deliver the best game to our customers ... the release date will move into the Company's next financial year.

This decision will have limited impact on the Company's profitability for the year ended 30 June 2009 as we had built in conservative expectations for this version of the game to reflect the re-establishment of the franchise. We expect to meet our previously stated revenue forecast."

For general interest, a promising preview of CM:

With predictions for TRU to eventually perform as well as TRL (4.5M) and this game looking like a return to form, Square are really bagging a bargain IMO. I hope they delay CM until Sep/Oct to give it more polish and align it with the start of the new season, now cashflow is no longer an issue. However, with this management's knack for bad timing (ie TRU's Xmas release) I'm still expecting an Apr launch.
