15/11/2018 17:48 | "The UK’s scheme for ensuring power supplies during the winter months has been suspended after a ruling by the European court of justice that it constitutes illegal state aid. Payments to energy firms under the £1bn capacity market scheme will be halted until the government can win permission from the European commission to restart it. The scheme subsidises owners of coal, gas and other power stations so the plants are ready to ensure that electricity for businesses and homes is available at peak times in winter. The UK has also been blocked from holding any capacity market auctions for energy firms to bid for new contracts to supply backup power in the future. National Grid said ministers had instructed it to indefinitely postpone auctions that had been planned for early 2019." | scotches

16/10/2018 11:15 | "The acquisition positions Drax as a key player to fill in the gaps in the UK energy system at times when solar and wind power output is low. It also means that if the company fails to secure the subsidies needed for the new gas power station it wants to build at its North Yorkshire site then it will still have a broad portfolio. The chief executive of Drax Group, Will Gardiner, said: “As the system transitions towards renewable technologies, the demand for flexible, secure energy sources is set to grow. We believe there is a compelling logic in our move.” | scotches
16/10/2018 09:24 | Excellent news. Really pleased that they managed to acquire these assets. OK, not quite there, but I don't see any reason for shareholders' objections or issues from the CMA. | minerve
16/10/2018 07:07 | "The Acquisition represents an attractive opportunity to create significant value for shareholders and is expected to deliver returns significantly in excess of the Group's WACC and to be highly accretive to underlying earnings in 2019." Delightful. | from8to800

25/9/2018 15:16 | This was BoA Merrill Lynch a few week's back: BoA Merrill Lynch upgraded Drax to “buy” with a 425p target price, largely on the prospect of cheaper biomass feedstock supporting earnings. | minerve

25/9/2018 11:09 | But wait, maybe they swallowed the info and like it. I did a bit of researh last night and I would, as an investor, like the pumped storage assets in the Drax portfolio. I've actually visited the site in Scotland. Impressive. At one point it was going to be expanded but I think they were looking for government support which didn't materialise. Perhaps they should have changed their name to Scottish Power Housing! That would have got the numpty Tories interested. LOL | minerve
24/9/2018 17:12 | Market was getting used to share buybacks, increased dividends and a business plan that was clear and made sense. Now there is lots of mud in the water which may or may not be enhancing and may also be a cover for a plan that perhaps wasn't robust in the first place; hence the reaction. | minerve
24/9/2018 16:38 | Market didn't seem particularly excited over it though. Time will tell. | from8to800
24/9/2018 07:20 | News announcement this morning seems to explain the huge uncrossed trade at the end of Friday. Hold onto your shares! | moorsie2

21/8/2018 13:40 | Under any Brexit scenario this company is worth more than before the vote due to the greater strategic importance of UK mainland power generation. Still significantly undervalued... | moorsie2
20/8/2018 09:36 | Is the Drax share price benefiting from a potential no-deal Brexit and a rerating of a secure chunk of UK supply. "A Brexit crash landing will have a number of impacts for energy. It’s unlikely to mean that the lights go out, but it may well result in an increase in wholesale electricity prices and wholesale electricity price volatility. Interconnectors are not expected to stop flowing, but they will no longer do so on a frictionless basis. The UK will be free to choose its decarbonisation trajectory and pathway." Back in May the new Drax CEO speculated that a reliance on interconnectors threatened security of supply. "While energy debates are currently dominated by cost, Gardiner said ministers’ priorities were likely to swing back to security of supply, driven by events such as the “beast from the east” cold weather, which put pressure on the country’s energy system." | scotches
10/8/2018 13:02 | Ready now to push onto 395 area | moorsie2
03/8/2018 17:43 | Woodford selling is totally irrelevant. Good riddance. He's messed up a load of investments and just needs cash to cover his losses. | robi_n |
