Domino’s in good health, says Peel Hunt

Domino’s (DOM) has shrugged off the negative sentiment of the past year to show it is in good health, says Peel Hunt.

Analyst Douglas Jack retained his ‘buy’ recommendation and trimmed his target price from 350p to 325p on news UK like-for-like sales rose by 4.5% in the fourth quarter, and by 4.6% over the full year. The shares fell 8.7% to 250.1p yesterday.

He said there was ‘negative sentiment’ over the past year related to the UK franchise model but its latest trading update ‘has shown it to be in good health’, although the business still needed to prove itself overseas.

Thing is their international pizza's are MUCH cheaper than in the UK they must have cottoned on to how terrible the pizza's are. UK love being mugs and buying terrible pizza for £18.99 with barely any toppings !!

- Domino's international division set to post a loss of £3m-£4m for 2018
- Norway especially weak, with like-for-like sales down 6.5%
- Shares in Domino's Pizza fell 8.4 per cent to 250.9p after the update

Domino's forced to trim down its profit forecast despite popularity of 'cheeseburger' pizzas as it is held back by floundering international business

Neil Wilson, chief market analyst at Markets.com, said: 'Dominos franchisee strife looks set to weigh on growth prospects as it will impact the store rollout in the UK and Ireland.

Presentation webcast is worth a listen, I caught the last hour and a bit where they deal with franchisee issues and analyst questions. Liberum questions were more pointed than they usually are at these events (they have a sell rating) so it was good to see the response.

The new Operations Director Scott Bush seems to talk a good game and they were painting a positive picture re franchisee relationships.

"full year Underlying PBT now expected to be at the lower end of the consensus range of GBP93.9m-GBP98.2m"

94m v 96.7m originally forecast? Not a massive miss, and still only a yet. Continuing European challenges.

The questions remain.

Yep
Not sure what proportion international business contributes?

UK and ROI moving along nicely. International less so.
No idea how the market will respond to the update.

That gap is bang on previous support and we're exactly there now, resistance. Which is also the ceiling on the falling channel.

Retail-based drop and some disgruntled franchisees which dropped the share price about 15% 6 months ago, roughly. Market sentiment hasn't recovered it to past glories just yet, but growing on all fronts. A very solid share in my view.

Surprised this hasn't got caught up in the retail bounce in the last few days, especially as all the pubs are reporting sold growth v last year.

This has been beaten down and is offering 10% growth, share buybacks and no profit warnings.

@rawnsley I agree, international is still showing a lot of potential. Not sure why so much negativity over DOM, would buy more but currently overweight on the position.
