Here in New Zealand we have a lockdown. During the lockdown all takeaways are closed and deliveries of cooked food prohibited. All Dominos outlets are closed. Supermarkets can deliver food orders.NZ chose to go straight to a severe lockdown rather than gradually increasing restrictions. Everyone must stay home. All businesses are closed, except supermarkets, pharmacies, gas stations. We are starting our 5th day of lockdown. We are not allowed to drive except to local essential services. There are very few vehicles on our roads, which makes it easy for police to stop and check. |
Domino’s UK looking to hire 6000 staff to meet demand for delivery, according to FT article this weekend. Most of the fast food competition has vanished overnight, i.e. McDonalds, KFC, Burger King, Subway, Greggs, Pret as well as the casual dining chains. Domino's Pizza in the USA are hiring an additional ten thousand people to cope with the increased demand, so I presume Domino's in the UK are taking similar action. |

OK so takeaways still permitted. This should help dom. Today's announcement is really bad news for the hospitality industry but I suppose it was inevitable. Hopefully an exit will come along sooner rather than later.

^ I think there is more growth there but it needs more of a team relationship between the company and franchisees. They have explained the benefits to both from splitting areas quite well in the past (announcement meetings from a couple of years or so ago). Believe they call it fortressing as it protects sales as well as boosting sales and have the evidence it works from maturer markets. You can see though why franchisees might need more incentive to overcome short term pain/stress. |
