14/11/2014 12:10 | Good point Mike, if you were previously a CPW shareholder you might be a bit miffed re dividends. | septimus quaid
13/11/2014 22:17 | When talking of dividend resumption you have to remember that some holders would have previously been cpw shareholders. It's only former dxns shareholders who weren't getting dividends. Anyway didn't they say 1/3 of eps would be distributed as dividends ? Interims on 17th December will be a guide then. Anony Mous - Get your own vouchers ! :p | mikepompeyfan

08/11/2014 21:39 | Interesting article on Seb. He talks about the middle class "carnal love" for John Lewis as if its some sort of mythical fixation that he doesn't quite understand. Well let me help you there Seb. Its to do with the respect they have for their customers. Lets take a look at the two's laptop page online firstly the Currys one "save upto £100 on laptops" is the message oh wait the main deal the HP @ £349.99 has £150 OFF!!! WOW so that is a £500 laptop is it...really? I think not. Looking at the JL site no savings but surprise suprise most of the laptops offer similar spec and price as the Currys. Then lets look at the all important warrenty Currys has a year guarantee JL has 2. But here is where Currys really competes (not) A five year guarantee including accidental cover at JL £75 To take currys own warranty out ,recently re named (again) care plan £6.50 a month from day 1 so over 5 years that works out at £390!! £75 vs £390!! I also know the strike rate target for laptop warrenrtys was around 40% so they expect staff to sell it to 4 out of 10 customers, not suprising really with that sort of margin. You don't get that hit rate without some pretty intense selling and the staff are heavily trained in overcoming objections ,if you say no you are often offered the first month "free" to try and get you to sign up. Also their warrenty performance is managed very closely as although they don't shout about it Currys unsurprisingly makes a considerable amount of their profits from warrentys. So they say they sell customers what they want ,well provided at least 40% want care plan! So there you have it a couple of, I think pretty stark reasons why customers have reason to trust JL and not Currys. Don't get ne wrong I am not particularly a fan of JL.The one in our city is dated and is literally year's behind the Currys PC World. But when it comes to treating the customer with respect Currys, although improved are nowhere near JL. | tim 3
07/11/2014 10:29 | Also ... If you want a pure play on consumer electronics sales in the UK this is it. | undervaluedassets
