Dipped my toe at 124.5p as a new addition to my portfolio. Good board, too, informative and polite unlike many on ADVFN (and LSE). Intend to add lower and build a bigger stake (should the price continue to fall materially). Good luck longs.

Next dividend payment date is this coming Monday.

GBP/USD is currently 1.1277.

I went for the option of payment in dollars so can benefit even more from the recent rise in the dollar, just as well really as I'm losing purchasing power in most other arenas...

I can't see inflation moderating any time soon particularly if Liz Truss is borrowing £150 billion to subsidise energy bills.

Feels like the 70s again, only with better technology but worse music.

At the risk of being publicly eviscerated again , there have recently been a couple of articles in the Telegraph which might be of interest . Firstly , in last Wednesday’s edition , it tipped Golar LNG as a buy at $ 27.27 , describing the Company as “ owning 40% of the ‘ floating refineries ‘ needed to transport natural gas without pipelines “ . I haven’t yet read the full article , but that would suggest that the Telegraph anticipates an increase in the international , seaborne trade in natural gas . Secondly , in a two-page analysis of how Sino-Russian relations have been altered by the war in Ukraine , the Telegraph indicates an increase in supplies of Russian gas to China , stating “ Russia is also looking east to build the Power of Siberia 2 pipeline , which is expected to run through Mongolia from western Russia and will power China’s energy-hungry economy . Once built , around 50 billion cubic meters of natural gas will run through the pipeline per year , representing a third of what Russia used to sell to Europe . Alexander Novak , the Russian energy minister , claims this will replace the Nord Stream 2 pipeline which was planned to run to Germany . The eastern gas pipelines have been in the works since 2006 , with Power of Siberia 1 now up and running and China agreeing to a 30-year deal to import natural gas . Its successor is expected to begin building works in 2024 . “ There’s no other big market apart from China that Russia can sell its gas to “ , says Gabuev [ Alexander Gabuev , a senior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in Washington DC ] . “ So building a pipeline there is the easiest way forward “ . He adds that the project provides a win-win solution for both countries . “ it’s going to be the cheapest gas that China gets from anywhere . Any concern that Mongolia is an unreliable partner in the project has also gone “ . While flows of gas through the Nord Stream 1 pipeline are unlikely to resume any time soon , Barclays believes that a full cut-off from Europe is unlikely . It believes the Turkstream pipeline , which runs under the Black Sea and delivers gas to Turkey , Serbia and Hungary , can keep Gazprom profitable if gas prices remain high “ . It seems to me that these two articles in the Telegraph ( buying shares in an LNG shipping company and moves to increase Russian gas exports to China ) could be positive for future exports of DEC’s gas to Europe .

"I would therefore welcome a more thorough explanation from you for the number of shares transacted and the price movement"

"but there is a huge difference between the 453,000 supposed sells and the supposed 29,000,000 buys"

Oh for goodness sake!! Why do you think all trades are reported on the same day, or at the real time they occur? Large trades may be worked over several days or longer. You are NOT seeing the entirety of what is actually occuring at any given moment. Therefore you can deduce nothing because your knowledge is incomplete. You have no idea what might still be coming down the pike!!!! Stop being so lazy and do your own research instead of asking for "explanations" for the inexplicable. Improve your own knowledge and you'll realise just how naive your questions are. An understanding of basic economic theory might also be useful.

The market matches buyers to sellers, that's it. You need to research how the market works - attempting to puzzle out one day's share price movements is utterly pointless (except to some kamikazi day trader perhaps) and doomed to failure.

"the fall of the pound against the dollar should sooner or later cause the share price to rise" - there are many factors that *might* cause the share price to rise or fall, either alone or in conjunction. The market isn't necessarily logical.

You seem to believe there is some secret formula for all this - there isn't. If there was we'd all be rich.

Woodhawk . You accuse me of making naive comments , and maybe you are right . I would therefore welcome a more thorough explanation from you for the number of shares transacted and the price movement - I am very happy to learn from those with greater Knowledge than I have . As I implied , i know that the way in which LSE decides whether transactions are buys or sells is quite rough and ready , and isn’t to be relied on too much , but there is a huge difference between the 453,000 supposed sells and the supposed 29,000,000 buys . To my naive mind , it seems that , whilst the shares of DEC are denominated in £s , all the assets are in the USA , and the dividends are in US $s so , if logic applies , the fall of the pound against the dollar should sooner or later cause the share price to rise . So , please give me the benefit of your greater knowledge .

mrnumpty,

"but nonetheless there were presumably far more bought than sold" and "the “ clever “ big boys seized the drop to buy"

I really think you need to try to understand how the market works before making naive statements like that.

Over 28,000,000 shares in the closing UT. By the price action, it looks to me like someone exiting in a hurry, but enough buyers in the auction to fill. I see no skulduggery.

On the LSE chat site , a poster named TrekMadone reported on Thursday that Goldman Sachs have issued a report that Europe is now sufficiently prepared for winter , having built up its gas reserves , so Goldman Sachs predicts a halving of the gas price . Whilst Trek is a regular poster , who appears to have a holding here and whose comments always appear honest , Goldman Sachs has a reputation for making comments which turn out to be inaccurate . Anyway , as we all know , the prices which DEC receives are based on contracted prices , so revenue isn’t based on the vagaries of the spot price . LSE reported yesterday that about 450,000 DEC shares were sold but that over 29,000,000 were bought , and yet the share price dropped . Sure , it’s often pointed out that the data on share transactions provided by LSE cannot be relied on , but nonetheless there were presumably far more bought than sold , and yet the price dropped . Maybe an explanation is that the “ clever “ big boys seized the drop to buy or perhaps the share price conveniently dropped for them .

Looks like its trying to get through $9 tonight.

Bodes well for future hedging - still don't think the market has factored in the structural change in the US natural gas market - BWDIK.

EU tax on fossil fuel ... wholly irrelevant to DEC

Does anyone have any views of the impact of the EU tax on fossil fuel companies that's being finalised in Brussels and likely to pass (only requires a majority vote) on DEC (and any other oil & gas investment you might have)? Should we be concerned?

Apollocreed1 and aleman . Thanks for the pleasant and informed replies about transpiration of LNG by ships . I am also invested in the company Yellowcake , which purchases yellow cake from Kazakhstan and then holds it in secure facilities in France and Canada prior to selling it to the nuclear industry . It was therefore interesting to read in the Telegraph of 5th September that , in Britain , we had 15 nuclear reactors in 2020 , but that will drop to 3 in 2030 , provided that new plants progress as planned ! I know that I am comparing apples and pears here , but both Natural Gas and nuclear supply the same end need and it seems to me that the situation in Britain and Europe is becoming increasingly dire due to decades of indifference . So , if there are more LNG ships to transport natural gas to Europe , then it’s so much better for DEC .

And, announcement of the exchange rate is typically around middle of the month for £ payment near the end of the month.
