04/7/2022 01:11 | saint in exile, You don't pay income tax in an ISA, apparently though you do pay half the full (30%) Withholding tax (i.e. 15%). podgyted just posted that you can claim the withholding tax back under the £2000 dividend allowance even outside an ISA or SIPP. I've no info on this so do your own research on that one, but AFAIK that £2000 is for all sources of dividend for an individual, not per shareholding so do your own due diligence. | cassini
04/7/2022 00:21 | You can of course hold DEC outside an ISA, if you have taxable dividends below £2,000 including those from DEC, and you will get the with-holding tax back if you do a tax return under double taxation relief. | podgyted
03/7/2022 21:47 | Apologies too LG.So that's means that if Zphr energy issue dividends they will be subject to 15% tax too.Ffs! | saint in exile
03/7/2022 19:52 | Flyer61, DEC is a UK registered company but because all it’s operations are in the US it is deemed as a US company for tax purposes, in this regard it is a bit of an oddity. If you want more information it is all on the company website. | gary1966
03/7/2022 19:47 | mrnumpty - since early June (see my previous posts) there have been a number of days where trading activity and patterns have been abnormal. As fundamentals of DEC are strong, I treat these levels as a great opportunity to add to my position which I have been doing. | asp5
03/7/2022 19:26 | Apologies Lord Gnome, I shouldn’t post after my afternoon nap….you are correct. | flyer61
03/7/2022 19:14 | Flyer61 - Can you please do a bit of basic research before posting? I am sick and tired of people raising the same issues time and again. What research do you do before investing large sums of money?FYI the US Treasury imposes a withholding tax of 30% on dividends paid by US companies to overseas shareholders regardless of where the shares are listed. This tax can be reduced to 15% if you fill in the correct form available from your stockbroker. Dividends are paid free of withholding tax if you have your shares in a pension pot. | lord gnome
03/7/2022 18:57 | If you look at the ADVFN graphs here for share buys / sells , you will see that , at about 4.00 pm on Friday 1st July , the share price dropped significantly , only to recover strongly , and that the attached bar chart shows a major share purchase at the end of the day’s trading . If you then go to the LSE site , you’ll find that 490,389 shares were bought @ 110.3 p , for a total consideration of £ 540,900 . So , depending on how cynical you are , either a major investor is very clever and lucky , or the share price was “ helped “ down , perhaps after small investors had received their dividend , so were less willing to hold on to their shares . Anyway , it suggests to me that a major investor thinks that DEC is a “ buy “ at this price . | mrnumpty
03/7/2022 18:42 | The front page of the Business section of today’s Sunday Telegraph has an article titled “ [ UK ] Factories warned of winter gas rationing “ . Also , “ Germany’s industrial sector has been told to ready itself for gas rationing after a drop in supplies from Russia “ . However , if there were to be an end to the Ukraine war , would the Germans , Russians and others happily open the spigots on Nord Strom 1 , allowing Russian gas to flow west again ? | mrnumpty
03/7/2022 18:35 | Well I don’t. Why withholding tax? This is a UK listed Company NOT a US listed company. | flyer61
03/7/2022 14:37 | Withholding tax yes. Income tax no. | gary1966
03/7/2022 10:10 | You don't pay any tax on dividends within an ISA Cassini surely? | saint in exile
02/7/2022 21:34 | Thanks bluemango | mrnumpty
02/7/2022 21:25 | Thanks for that. Just so you know, there's an edit button for corrections. Here's the article: | bluemango
02/7/2022 21:20 | Corrections : too many “ positive “ ; I don’t know where “ sally “ came from - should have been “ rally “ ( result of fat fingers and small screen ) | mrnumpty
02/7/2022 21:18 | There’s a very positive article about the positive outlook for natural gas . Google “ natural gas prices “ , then go to the website “ OilPrice “ , where the article commences “ Natural gas prices to sally … “ | mrnumpty
02/7/2022 08:12 | Many thanks Cassini - I already have a SIPP with ii as it happens; shudda bought them in there instead. Doh! | boystown
02/7/2022 00:35 | Boystown, Sounds like you paid 15% tax, that is the correct amount to pay in an ISA. The only way to pay no withholding tax is to take out a SIPP. However, you have to pay monthly fees (~a tenner/month at II) to have a SIPP and you can't access it until 55 (57 from 2028 I believe) plus you pay income tax on 75% of any withdrawals from a SIPP (over the tax allowance of 12.57k income from all taxable sources). On the plus side the taxman gives you a refund (25% of what you put in) of any income tax you paid on what you put into a SIPP. e.g. you put in 80k, they give 20k back into your SIPP (what you can contribute depends somewhat on whether you are still earning - there are some conditions). One to ponder on, but it's not IMO opinion the solution just to avoid tax on one share... | cassini
01/7/2022 20:49 | I received 2.9123pps divi in my ISA, so obviously had to pay the tax. Is there any way I can get this back - and/or to avoid it next time, can anyone tell me what I need to do? Many thanks in advance | boystown
01/7/2022 18:45 | Also reinvested my 4.25 USCs in my interactive Investor SIPP. Didn't wish to pay Stamp Duty or foreign exchange charges, therefore brought us listed I'll company Devon energy at $54 a share plus 4.89 USD commission with no other charges or withholding tax due | 2wild
01/7/2022 15:38 | Well, that is the divi spent. I have just topped up at 108.86 in my SIPP. Provided the wheels don't fall off, I can look forward to an even better September than June, when the next divi drops. With recession talk and suggestions that energy prices will fall (which I shall believe when I am pleasantly surprised when I fill the car, and for which I am not holding my breath)DEC with its hedged sales seems to me to be very attractive at its current price. Indeed, a gas price FALL actually carries some benefit for DEC, as it reduces the tax payable by the company, which is calculated on market, not realised, gas prices. | 1knocker
01/7/2022 15:21 | Just out of curiosity, if one bought with cfd account before xd date, would you get the full amount or will they also withhold the tax. | kickingking
01/7/2022 15:20 | Yep 30% tax in IWeb isa :( | imnotspartacus |
