Looking very sick, will be obliterated ex dividend, been going down five years running, check charts for those of you who can read ( doubtful ). Each high lower than last. Let them re rate to 2.55 2.80 range which is where they are going. UK inflation 5 pc, dividend 7 pc, net 2 pc a year with ZERO capital growth, everyone wants capital growth, these are just risk and unlikely takeover target, nobody wants insurers, dont quote RSA, the price paid was poor and it was taken out for the Canadian biz. Some of you are very thick tho.

“Direct Line's dividend yield is now at the point where we need to talk about it. In this market, an 8+% prospective dividend yield should ring alarm bells rather than get your mouth watering. We'd usually want profits to be at least 1.5 times the dividend, and Direct Line is some way off at the moment. The group needs to recover to 2019's level of profitability, and then surpass it, for the dividend to become more sustainable. That's reflected in the relatively low valuation and high dividend yield and as always there are no guarantees”

Reasonable results but nothing to justify buying today. Looks like some people may know something and loading on pretence of results.
Interesting to see what materialises in next few days/short term.

Nice little return in a very haphazard nonsensical market

Have sold out just now will await future developments
Good luck to those still holding

More waste of money share buybacks being announced here today and say at BP.

BP CEO suggests they can buyback 5% of their shares annually and raise the dividend by 4% !

That is not even by the % they gain from no longer having the 5% issued.

To describe buybacks as a "return to shareholders" is utter BS. Its creating a market for institutions to play their buying and selling games with, when the buybacks stop the music stops and the share price drops.

Thanks for holding the shares today, here's a buyback now F-off.

Rewarding shareholders , is giving them a dividend to remain shareholders.

Why is buying a lease being written off against profits and not a capital cost to be depreciated ?

Just shows insurance results can be whatever one (prudently) wants them to be.

Over 41% of Operating profit , is prior year reserve releases, how many other companies would like that ability to manage their positions ?

Well those results are a lot better than I was expecting. I wouldn't be surprised now if the share price moves up and out of the current trading range. Very good performance.
