Yes lots of bearishness around DGE atm.

Always easier to buy when everyone is excited and loves something,
but not usually the best time for future returns.

DGE is his second largest holding from memory.
That article was published before the recent dip.

Nice way for Buffett to cap off his career with a bid?,
would think it would be with Mr Lemann's involvement - pure speculation
on my part just to add.

Agree with him on SGE long term, but not cheap and everyone appears to love it now.

Good article here from a couple of weeks ago, covers most of the bases....

Nick Train: Why I'm still keen on investing in Diageo shares, but the board should be 'looking over its shoulder' due to recent share price performance

Portfolio optimisation ) - expect to see a lot of this from DGE.
The recent hotel sale just a small part of this.

SEC in the background, however this will be a minor or a non issue IMV
the CEO gave no indication of anything significant - just my take.
If there is further news on this there may be volatility.

Risk/reward looks reasonable, wider equity markets always a factor on a UKX stock.

The CEO has bought in quantity over the last year, not cheap options
either.

Attempting to estimate the short term share price is merely a guess so little idea on that.

Took a little nibble this morning, at 1783p for my ISA. Couldn't resist with it going ex-divi in 8 days time for 34.9p. Think it may well get dragged lower over time if markets continue to play up, so will be looking to buy more if we fall to the 1725 area.

Agreed. The brands, LT EM market exposure, cashflow and compounding dividends are my main reasons for being invested here.

Potential bid interest makes me feel more comfortable though, as its likely to put a cap on the downside in any wider market fall imo.

If there is to be a bid for DGE, 3G Capital in conjunction
with Berkshire Hathaway is the more likely structure IMV.

This is highly speculative and I would buy Diageo on the basis of potential strong
growth rather than a rumoured bid imo.

PHTM can be volatile WO, if it was not for GBP strength it would be
higher imv, nice little business, good luck with that.

Yeah, that would be a nice level, maybe just need another little dip in the market and it might get there.

Incidentally, I think we were chatting a while ago about Photo-Me? Well, I decided to take the plunge at the start of the month for a small initial stake at 138. However, I was hoping to get my main stake at sub 130, so I didn't read that one too well... ;-)

Yes WO, valid point re quiet boards.

I was hoping for 1770's approx to buy, may not happen.
