1850 looks like a magnet. with 2230 and 2130 along the way. jesse livermore said never buy a stock that keeps going down even if everything else leads you to think otherwise. its on 17 times to june 2025 which is much low than it has been but growth is always much lower than it has been. and is there a problem in latam, more than others have suffered? and is there a structural issue in less drinking brands? at 17 times all that isnt fully in the price imo. |
Drop in sterling should be helping but isn't This share is in a bad way |
Interim results 04.02.2025 will be interesting, see what is happening in LAC and overall with our next XD 27th Feb.. :o) |
Agree with Paul Carty comments, also add high debt & govts around the world anti spirits due to high social costs. Agree good brands, but only means treading water in a declining market. Tried selling Pimms no offers says it all. Best to avoid soft drinks brands look better value. |
His fund sold Amazon last year, and that has subsequently doubled. His record is not that great the last 3/4 years, underperforming the benchmark.I wouldn't pay for his overly expensive fund based on long past heroics. Each to their own and all that. |
Pump and dump.
I see Terry Smith has completely unloaded.
From the Daily Telagraph:
"Mr Smith said: “Diageo, which we had owned since inception, has exhibited problems with its new management, shown by a lack of information about its Latin American business which produced results far worse than the sector in this area.”
In November 2023 Diageo was forced to issue a profit warning caused by a major slowdown in the region, which accounts for about 11pc of its global business. The warning caused the steepest fall in its share price since 1997.
The sale of Fundsmith’s stake in Diageo was first reported last September. However, the reasons for this decision were not revealed at the time.
Mr Smith came to prominence working for Barclays as an analyst in the 1980s, and has since grown into one of the UK’s best-known investors with a reputation for activism." |
There is almost a perfect storm hitting the drinks sector in the past two years.
1)Younger drinkers of LDA are drinking far less than previous generations.
2) consumers are drinking less spirits in volume terms
3) consumers have a much better understanding of the health benefits of drinking less alcohol.
4) consumers have priorities over and above alcohol spending ( mortgage, utilities , increased food costs)
5)It is now trendy to not drink alcohol and call for zero alcohol in outlets.
Having said all of that I have full confidence in Diageo PLC as it owns THE best brands in the drinks sector. The stock is undervalued from the above points ( overstocking will Peter out over time ) give Diageo some space and time to deliver on their strategy . |
SundayNo problem, data was from google so can't vouch for its accuracy. But yes a decent contribution if correct. |
Thanks Dave. So fair to say it’s a significant contribution |
Bacardi: Martini maker shaken as UK drinkers move away from spirits |
Post 2702:"I don't know how much actual Guinness contributes to Diageo...."It's about 20%, but given its current popularity I'm guessing it's now more than that. |

In his latest research note, analyst Sanjeet Aujla confirms his positive recommendation. The broker UBS is keeping its Buy rating. The target price remains unchanged at GBX 2920. |
I don’t know how much actual Guinness contributes to Diageo but recently Ive been astonished at the number of pints of Guinness I see on bars. |
For my 2 cents - nothings really changed. If in doubt do nothing, certainly wont be selling on this bad news. Might just be me, but I know alcohol is unhealthy but still drink and plan to continue doing so. Also, Diageo its alcohol free hedges bla bla. |
..... & dubious novel type (mRNA) COVID-19 vaccines, pressed onto frightened low-risk folks, including as un-trialled multi-booster regimens. These should have a risk warning, including for cancer.
Here is Prof Gus Dalgleish of St Georges London spelling out what he is seeing:
And here, in grim detail, are a lot of biologically plausible mechanisms |
Lol, so very true but you missed drugs, you can take drugs to counter all these ailments, drugs to stop you smoking, drugs to stop you drinking, drugs to make you skinny and as long as you're on drugs youll be as healthy as a zombie. So a few beers, what's not to like... |
Drink gambling and smoking are the easiest targets. Perhaps I would drink less if our government did a better job! Suet |
![](https://images.advfn.com/static/default-user.png) Shall we then conclude that from now on alcohol will be in the same category as tobacco despite alcohol kills globally less than tobacco ? In this case they should leave no stone unturned. So why don't they move into other areas to check how many millions are killed by: - McDonalds et al. and all those selling junk food - Fruits and vegetables containing high pesticide levels - Exposure to mobile phone radiations from Apple, Samsung et al. as every person I meet in the street is glued into his/her mobile device in a NON-STOP mode.
We should thus get hazard symbols on big Macs for diabetes, heart attacks and obesity. We should see danger signs on Apple/Samsung phones and any non-organic fruit and veg.
Then how many americans die from meat and milk containing hormones ? Did they support any study on why a human being can weigh up to 400kg+ if not caused by consumption of refined foods, big Macs, Coca Cola and hormones in meats and milk ? - This condition didn't exist before until junk food. Why don't they just destroy every existing industry on earth to finally allow humans to just sit down and wait for their destiniy while looking at each other's faces ?
For simplicity, they should check every hospital in the US to search for the number of patients with chronic deseases. Are these deseases caused by junk food/Coca/Pepsi and probably hormones in meats and milk or by alcohol ? - That is the main question.
This is where stupidity is at its best: "Alcoholic drinks should come with a cancer warning label after being linked to 20,000 deaths in the US each year, says U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy."
How many are killed and disabled by junk food every year at the same time causing billion dollars treatment and follow up for chronic deseases of those still alive ? |
