IC not so positive

Deltron

Although the second half of the year was disappointing for Deltron, it still managed to grow its market share and improve margins. But that wasn't enough to stop sales for the year from slipping while losses were exacerbated by £1.2m of reorganisation costs and £900,000 goodwill amortisation.

The focus at Deltron has been on reducing net debt and ensuring that it is able to respond to market opportunities as they arise. To this end, a post year-end placing and open offer at 60p a share, which raised £6.4m, will boost the group's balance sheet. The funds will assist the group in accelerating its organic growth, including the further development of its franchise network together with supporting working capital requirements when the market recovery comes. Broker Evolution Beeson Gregory is forecasting profits of £1.5m this year for earnings of 3.1p a share.

IC View:

The timing of any recovery will have a huge effect on the group's progress. So until any signs of improvement appear, at 62.5p a share, it looks fairly priced.

Some good news for you holders of component distributors (premier farnell, abacus, electrocomponents, eurodis electron, deltron).

I work for a major wholesale/retail company selling electronic components. As all knows, the sector has had a torrid few years. However, in the past 6 to 8 weeks we have experienced a tangible increase in sales after flattish 6 to 12 months. Our suppliers have also experienced the same (they include the likes of Eurodis whom i have heard from a colleague there, first hand, that they have also experienced noticeable improvements in the past 1 or 2 months). The trends for our business show a sustained improvement into and after xmas. And further strong gains in the new year onwards. As our business trends directly correlate with the business fortunes of the major component distributors i am sure they will also have similar sales improvements going forward. We are finally seeing a sustainble improvement in our sector after some very lean years.

results below. market likes them, especially the 'geared for recovery but ok if there isn't one' (to paraphrase just a little....)and the maintained dividend.

60p has proved a rock-steady support for the share price so a good buy at these levels still. i don't know when they will head north, but if you are patient, and like stocks that pay a good divi while u wait, this is one to tuck away.

LONDON (AFX) - Deltron Electronics PLC saw its pretax loss for the year to
Sept 30 2003 widen to 1.52 mln stg from 608,000 stg a year earlier after the
upturn seen in the second quarter of the year failed to continue into the second
half.
Before goodwill and exceptionals, the pretax profit slumped to 560,000 stg
from 1.4 mln on turnover of 64.0 mln stg, down from 65.5 mln.
The board maintained its final dividend at 1.17 pence for a total payout of
1.755 pence, unchanged from a year earlier.
The group raised 6.4 mln stg in a placing and open offer after the year end
and it said that with the proceeds from this fundraising and a tight control on
the cost base, when the upturn comes it will maximise the benefit from its
strong operational gearing.
Chairman Paul Gourmand said Deltron continued to win market share in the
year under review and it expects this to continue.
Gross margins improved in the second half to 32 pct from 31.3 pct in the
first six months, stock turnover reached six times, which is twice the industry
average and the order book was maintained at 2.5 months.
Since the year-end the group has agreed new term and revolving banking
facilities which carry through to 2008 and 2010.
Gourmand said recent macro economic indicators for Europe at last show a
recovery. It is too early to say that this heralds an immediate upturn in
markets. However, the rate of decline has slowed and the willingness of
customers to enter into long term contracts are all encouraging signs, he said.
Group chief executive CJ Sawyer said Deltron is highly operationally geared.
He said there are many indicators, which give the board hope that the cycle
may have turned. "We know that the decline has slowed and that customers are
gaining in confidence."
The board of Deltron, whilst recognising the decline in sales over the last
three years has considerably slowed, have positioned the company so that it is
not reliant upon recovery.
"We expect to continue to increase market share and to expand our franchise
base. Whatever the outlook, Deltron will make the most of it," Sawyer concluded.

Comment from The Times

Followers of Deltron Electronics, off ½p at 61p, were intrigued to learn that rival Acal has participated in the component distributor's £7 million fundraising, which was approved by shareholders yesterday. Acal trimmed its stake in February, but has now bought more stock to maintain its interest at 7.34 per cent. Although Peter Webb's Unicorn Asset Management holds 28.4 per cent, Acal is still seen as a possible predator.

After retreating on Monday's disappointing full-year figures, Innovation Group, the insurance software specialist, ticked up ¾p at 18p on stakebuilding by Robert Bonnier, better known for once running Scoot.com and building a holding in Regus. Yesterday, ICE SAS, Mr Bonnier's Paris-based investment vehicle, said it had lifted its interest - which is held through contracts for differences - to 4.28 per cent.

aeroinventory , a component supplier , was always raising cash to keep stocked up on components, i supose deltron need to do the same in anticipation of some long awaited orders.

wathot.com recons a quick return to 70p with a 30% gain a good possibility.
MWM will now be commenting on this stock, his tips have been very good recently.

Well this news answers the questions.
LONDON (AFX) - Deltron Electronics PLC proposed to raise 6.5 mln stg through
a placing and open offer of 11.62 mln new shares at 60 pence each.
It also estimated its profit before interest, taxation, operating
exceptional items and goodwill amortisation for the year to Sept 30 2003 will be
at least 1.6 mln stg.
Goodwill amortisation is expected to be 900,000 stg.
During the year, Deltron said it achieved an increase in gross margins from
31.7 pct in the first six months to at least 32 pct in the second.
Operating exceptional items are expected to be about 1.3 mln stg, covering
business reorganisation and a headcount reduction during the year. The group
said it will continue to maintain tight controls over its overheads.
In addition, Deltron said it has agreed new term and revolving banking
facilities with its bank to carry through to between 2008 and 2010.
The funds raised from the placing and open offer will strengthen its balance
sheet and will allow it to respond to its expectation of an upturn in the
electromechanical components market, it said.
The proceeds will also assist it in accelerating its organic growth, it
added, including the further development of its franchise network.
Deltron offers shareholders 2.45 mln new shares under the open offer on a
1-for-12 basis. The remaining 9.3 mln new shares have been placed with Unicorn
Asset Management and institutional investors.
Shareholders will vote on the placing and open offer at the Extraordinary
General Meeting on Nov 25.

£6 million is a large ammount for a company with a market cap of only £18 million, what are they going to do with the money? How have they been able to do this without shareholders being involved?

Artful Dodger - you dead yet?

Found this on Times Online:

"Deltron Electronics faded 4½p at 61½p on word that Evolution Beeson Gregory, house broker, had conducted a £6 million fundraising for the components supplier at 60p."

not got the time to do this one justice.

solid fundamentals, tightly held stock, pays about 4% divi whilst we wait for the (inevitable) upswing. chart is looking ripe.

A good chance to buy at the first floor, if you want a lower-risk play on the electronic component sector.

I hold quite a few, to add some balance to my otherwise too exciting portfolio.
Get your broker to automatically re-invest the divi's on stocks like these, and then they grow without having to watch 'em too closely.

With TT Electronics coming out with a quite positive AGM this week, will it be long before DET rises again to the 90p level?

The forgotten electrocomponents manufacturer, tightly held which makes it a bit tough to get into once it starts moving.

Moved up this morning, looks primed with the chart now in an up trend imo.

Sorry to here that folks; if Watson-Mitchell tipped these...prepare for the worst!

The trading statement stinks .... partially blaming the Iraq situation for lack of visibility; very tried & very pedestrian.... could the real problem be a bit more globally encompassing ? ...Bon chance Deltron & it's investors'.
