Sky stopped broadcasting 3D on 31 May

The end for 3D TV: Sky finally kills off its channel, five years

Goodbye, terrible computer-generated films, silly glasses and bouts of seasickness – the 3D TV fad seems to be over.

Sky 3D, one of the pioneers of the format, has killed off its Sky 3D channel, five years after it launched.

The writing was on the wall late last year as Sky announced it would no longer show Premier League matches in 3D.

The BBC killed off its own 3D TV department in 2013, saying that viewers found it too much of a turn-off to wear glasses to watch shows.

Both broadcasters had high hopes for the format – but demand for 3D televisions has been low, and filming shows in the format, using specialised cameras, is extremely expensive.

Most home 3D TVs were more expensive than 2D TVs, and required users to wear cinema-style glasses to watch.

Users often complained that the glasses gave them headaches or made them feel seasick.

Technology companies have largely stopped hyping the format, switching instead to pushing ‘Ultra HD’ sets with screen resolutions four times as sharp as Full HD.

Now they are coming up with positive newsflow, which would have buoyed the shares a while ago.At that time the market may have been receptive to a placing on the back of that. Now the market cap is very low and any placing would be highly dilutive.

All we need is a 500 to 1 share consolidation and £10 is a reality.....until it sinks again.

I wonder how much the share price is buoyed up by the fact that at 2p its almost too low in value for most holders to bother to sell.

A classic "double or quit" dilemma. Throw good money after bad or is it the steal of the century. There will be advocates on both sides of the argument. Personally - I might as well stick as my average in cost is around nil having taken a profit in the dim and distant past (oh how I wished I took a lot more but hey, that's hindsight for you).

New licences may add value in a breakup or more likely a takeover. Trouble is its likely the takeover will be share for share from some puffed up technology stock so we may end up no better off in the final analysis.

Sad really.

It would be good to see the directors shell out a few thousand pounds each on buying the shares; and if they really thought it was worth it, they would. But if they don't in the near future, then anyone crazy enough to still hold, and that I'm afraid includes my rump holding, should push them onto the market at any price, just to unload. Last one out, don't bother shutting the gate: it's already too late.

Convince the management of that, and we might salvage something half-decent in a sale/liquidation which would include a sale of the IP.[They need to dig up counterbidders to push up the price].Problem is,they are part of the overhead !

This is heading down the toilet. Surely no one will give them any more money to waste.

The reason why the intellectual property is worth more than DDD is that it has no overheads/running costs. Those include DDD's listing costs. It is essentially just a stream of income. So if DDD cannot break even on cash flow short term,it should sell up and liquidate, with an obvious potential buyer of its IP being Samsung. It may also have some potential on top of that stream of income for a company with the money to develop it.
I say short term because DDD has had plenty of time to commercialise its IP,and it keeps running low on funds.IMHO the market has had enough of this and any further fundraisings are likely to further dilute the shareholders.

Note 3 to the accounts.

The cost of Yabazam - Wow ! is all I can say.

Unbelievable strategic decision.

I see that DDD have tried to bury their awful results by releasing them on election results day. It won't help as they are doomed. Once the results sink in the price will crash.

What market is there in the 2D market. Such nonsense. DDD have changed direction so many times and every times it is a disaster.

Surely everyone knows that the results out in a few days will be dire as usual.

They are changing direction to the 2D market; a few days ago some investor(s)bought more to take their shareholding to above 3% (not a great deal of money, I know, lol), so there are some people that believe something is about to happen. I have sold a big chunk, but am still holding a little on the basis that it won't make a great difference on the loss side, but if a miracle happens, and the price races north, it could deliver a nice return on this remaining rump holding. Hope springs eternal!

That leaves virtually no 3D channels being broadcast anywhere. The BBC shut down their broadcasts a while ago as did Australia. I believe that there are no 3D channels left in the US either. PC 3D sales have collapsed and were blamed for low revenues last time. That just leaves 3D TV sales, which are declining due to the advent of UHD and 3D mobiles and tablets, which seem to have stalled completely.

The RNS of 10/02 stated the following:

DDD expects revenues for the full year period to reach $2.54 million, a gross profit of $2.53 million and an adjusted LBITDAO of $800 thousand.

The Company announces that it expects to release its 2014 Full Year financial results during the week commencing 4 May 2015.

Also, for info, SKY has announced that it will be closing its 3D channel in June.

Look at the last set of results and you will see that income fell by 50% compared to the same previous period.

They raised £800k last month and that should last about 6 months at current cash burn rate.

The latest set of results are due now. They should make interesting reading. I am always suspicious when a company raises cadh in the month before results. It looks like it could be more difficult once the results are out.

The points to watch in the results are the revenue, the cash burn and cash position.

If you don't like my posts then don't read them and you will be much happier.

DDD is and has been a failed company. There was much excitement regarding 3D and it came to nothing. DDD doesn't have a market in which to make any money. They have always lurched from one fund raising exercise to the next. They raise money, spend it on development and marketing and no one buys their kit and so it goes on. It has always been jam tomorrow. Pretty soon their ability to raise money will disappear.

Falling nicely today.

This is doomed and had been for years. No one is interested in their IP. 3D everything is pretty much finished.

they have a lot of good external tie ups to commercialize the IP, into myriad of sectors.
( agree on yaz, complete rubbish and embarrassing

Once they get their IP integrated into a revenue sharing deal/product, they'll be off to the races.
We shall see.

The value of the IP is the earnings it can generate.

Therefore, if DDD monetises the IP, why is the IP worth more than DDD?

unless they are not fully exploiting the IP, but there is no indication of that.

In fact, throwing money at trying to monetise if (i.e. Yazabam) is one of the reasons they are skint.

Man alive, when I think of the content on Yazabam I have no idea what planet the management were on. I would love to know what it earned. If it was $10k I would be amazed.

The value of the IP is worth more than the current share price/market cap., plus they have cash, plus someone is maybe wanting to buy the business for the IP and what more they can use to put frills on their product(s). I said before, buying some to gamble on halving or doubling of the price is a good bet right now; and I'm still holding mine.
