16/3/2015 16:31 | DCD Rights signs new drama deals globally as The Principal is timetabled to launch at MIPTV Independent UK based distributor DCD Rights continues to secure new deals for its hit dramas The Slap and Rake, with new acquisitions confirmed in Europe, Canada and the US, as it prepares to launch powerful new character-driven drama The Principal at MIPTV. The International Emmy and BAFTA nominated drama The Slap (8 x 60’) has been acquired by Hulu in the US, Societe Radio Canada and Kino Polska. These new deals add to the recent format adaptation of the drama in the US, where a five episode mini-series debuted on NBC in February this year. DCD Rights has also shipped series one and two (16 x 60’ in total) of Rake to Fox Africa, taking the total territories airing the popular legal drama, an Essential Media & Entertainment and Blow By Blow Production for ABC Australia and Screen NSW, to more than 100. At MIPTV, DCD Rights will debut its latest drama series from Essential Media – currently in production for SBS TV – with The Principal (4 x 60’) starring Alex Dimitriades (The Slap), Aden Young (Rectify, The Code) and Mirrah Foulkes (Top of the Lake). A story of intrigue and personal identity, The Principal is set inside the pressure cooker of a troubled secondary school, where a new head’s radical attempts at reform, initially met with scepticism by staff and students alike, are starting to make progress - until a student is found dead on school grounds. Nicky Davies Williams, CEO at DCD Rights, commented, “We’re very pleased with the continued global success of these key titles in our drama portfolio – the impeccable performances and highly absorbing storylines of both Rake and The Slap ensure perfect content to attract and retain primetime audiences across each series. New mini-series The Principal from Essential Media promises to be a powerful drama, combining a murder mystery with the realities and moral complexities of life today, and we’re confident it will resonate very well with our international clients at MIPTV.” | cgod | |
