02/9/2018 08:27 | "The argument is that the big holders are in London and they want a day working afterwards." But this does not seem to apply to many other companies, small or large. A 10.30 start would be a good compromise. | nocton
01/9/2018 22:26 | Afraid not this year. Couldn't get leave from work. | doogle99
01/9/2018 16:46 | I am on a 6.00 am train from York so I understand. It was raised by me and supported from the floor. I had communication post AGM as well. The argument is that the big holders are in London and they want a day working afterwards. Anyway I shall be there pronto 9.30. will report tiger | castleford tiger
01/9/2018 15:02 | I'd like to go sometime, Tiger, but they persist in holding it early (9.30) in central London. I raised this issue as far back as 2013: "I should like to attend your AGM, but the timing at 9.30am means that anyone who lives outside the London commuter area will find it difficult to get in on time. In my experience, most companies, especially those who wish to encourage shareholders to attend, hold their AGMs later in the morning or in the afternoon. It is particularity disappointing that a company whose main business is in the northern part of the UK should hold its meeting in London at such an early time. Please bring this matter to the attention of the Board so that next year we can have the AGM at a more shareholder-friendly time." and got this reply: "Thank you for your email below. I appreciate the timing is not ideal for shareholders wishing to attend from the North. As per your request, I will raise this with the Board directly for them to consider. Yours sincerely Paul Forster, Group Company Secretary" with result as you see. So two fingers to private shareholders! Very few companies hold their AGMs so early and as this timing is clearly designed to discourage private shareholders, I would normally avoid such companies as I would like the board to be more in line with the shareholders. In this instance, as with many cos., before one buys the shares one doesn't know how they handle AGMs and the need/desire to attract private shareholders, and the company had such good prospects, as we have seen and as you have always shown, that it was an opportunity to good to miss. I could just about get there (from near Lincoln) for 9.30 but only by paying the highest rail fare and with no time allowance for any travel problems on the way. | nocton
01/9/2018 14:21 | Anyone joining me at the AGM on Thursday? Tiger | castleford tiger
29/8/2018 09:16 | hxxp://www.travelwee 350 FLIGHTS A DAY x 180 average = 63,000 customers a day x 7 = 441,000 a week. clearly not allowed for the 10x 757 that carry 230 and do 40 of these 350. So I guess the passenger numbers will not be far out. Clearly this is at peak season ( probably only 6 weeks) but that's a massive increase. Does anyone have a total schedule per day for September? Or how can we get these stats? Tiger | castleford tiger
18/8/2018 10:43 | I have posted on there this morning tiger | castleford tiger
18/8/2018 10:05 | Well I've just had a hunt around the various websites; Greenvale, Swancote, Jersey Royal etc., and the results RNSs and can find no ref to the nature of supply contracts unfortunately - so hopefully someone on the PIL thread will be able to enlighten us. When they warned in May, though, they referenced "lower margins on 2017 UK potato crops and reduced seed volumes and margins due to an oversupplied UK market" so it would be ironic if they weren't able to benefit when things turn the other way? | boystown
18/8/2018 09:27 | boystown I follow PIL but cannot work out iof it will be good or bad. Are the contracts at fixed prices etc? Certainly one to watch as I do ( we import Jerseys via them ) Tiger | castleford tiger
18/8/2018 09:02 | Given that potatoes are going up in price so drastically - wouldn't this be good news for PIL which already looks good value? | boystown
17/8/2018 10:46 | wow. thats pretty extreme inflation tiger. as this filters thru to cpi, a rise in interest rates will quickly follow. and though trump now says he doesnt like a strong dollar, his actions are causing it! but at least oil is going down slowly... | shaker44
17/8/2018 10:38 | We buy 26 pallets of flour twice a week. The figures quoted is ADM increase. Potatoes we pack via Sunpak potatoes 4 loadsx 25 tons a week. ( 52 weeks a year) We import Irish and American beef. Figures as per this week. I am talking at the coal face here as its happening. Still to filter into news. Milk up 10% in August alone, Much of this is due to a wet summer last year and then a late spring which meant all food reserves had gone. then since mid April the country has faced a drought as harsh as 1976.No grass and poor crops. Root crops face being down 50/70%. The first £20.00 sack of spuds is not far away. Tiger oh plus calor gas are just putting LPG up for the second time in a month. All fuels are 10/20% higher and kiln dried Russian wood is plus 30% up this season Much is to do with FX rates Tiger | castleford tiger
17/8/2018 09:05 | "Inflation going through the roof in food stuffs. This week 35% potatoes with more increases to come 20% flour ( that follows to bread/sandwiches etc) going to be a tricky 12 months in food stuffs as we cannot produce enough. Imported meats/wines/drinks already 15% up" Where do you get those figures from Tiger. 12 month CPI was 2.3% and steady. 2.5% in July, with food prices not specially mentioned as contributing to inflation. Transport costs was mentioned. In any case food is only about 10% of consumer spending. | nocton
15/8/2018 23:29 | never, due to weather. filk give up many things befire they guve up cheap overseas holidays. diwnshifting to jet2 from cook & tui more likely | shaker44
15/8/2018 19:29 | Yes $ costs on one side but consumer spending on the other. Retail inflation (QE driven) vs wage stagnation. I was invested in Fulham Shore, great growth story a few years ago (and tasty pizzas!), then hit by increasing euro costs and a drop in consumer spending. Had thought it would be insulated since it was targetting the lower end of the restaurant industry, but still got caught up by the drop in discretionary spending. Jet2 has benefitted from people wanting the price certainty and protection of a package holiday. However, in a similar vein to Lidl/Aldi versus Sainsbury/Tesco. My big question is with discretionary spending dropping, when will there be downshifting of overseas holidays towards staycations? | doogle99
15/8/2018 15:57 | This a $ strength story. €/£ has barely changed | woozle1
15/8/2018 15:40 | Not living in the UK so not seeing the inflation.. That sounds quite worrying, | snorkelparker
15/8/2018 15:29 | Only positive is euro and pound falling together vs the usd.. Going to be interesting that's for sure.. But it's holding up today in the face of a pretty ugly ftse sell off... | snorkelparker
15/8/2018 14:56 | with overseas earnings I agree. That's why FTSE 100 is strong. tiger | castleford tiger
15/8/2018 14:48 | weak £ normally very good for most plc's | meijiman
15/8/2018 14:44 | I think 1/1 Euro v £ and not much for cable is possible. Inflation going through the roof in food stuffs. This week 35% potatoes with more increases to come 20% flour ( that follows to bread/sandwiches etc) going to be a tricky 12 months in food stuffs as we cannot produce enough. Imported meats/wines/drinks already 15% up at 1/1 it would slow me up on the short break front! Tiger | castleford tiger
15/8/2018 14:22 | Hope the pound starts to find some kind of support, pretty ugly 10 days | snorkelparker
15/8/2018 12:24 | Just let the numbers do the talking. Eventually investors will sit up and notice. | woozle1 |
