07/8/2002 16:01 | hi everyone, do you all seriously beleive in the super messages of buy/sell on thompson site? honestly i think it is one of the many tricks played by those who can post such messages on gullible private investors. whenever there is a buy message at a price the price seems to fall and vice versa. are they tempting people into thinking price will go higher if there is a super buy message and lower becoz there is a big seller around? or have i got it completely wrong? i am paranoid and the CON in the confidence on financial institutions is certainly missing in me good luck for today as above the price should finish higher today..hopefully | ![]() atsuresh

07/8/2002 13:34 | all points to a strong open again stateside U.S. Stocks Rise After Cisco Profit Report; Juniper, Intel Shares Advance By Josh P. Hamilton New York, Aug. 7 (Bloomberg) -- U.S. stocks advanced after Cisco Systems Inc. said profits surged in the most-recent quarter. The report by the largest maker of computer networking equipment buoyed investor optimism that a 15-month slide in corporate earnings may be over. Rival Juniper Networks Inc. and chipmaker Intel Corp. also gained. ``Cisco is a bellwether company in the U.S., and its better- than-expected results are helping market sentiment,'' said John Litschke, an analyst at Loomis Sayles & Co., which manages $68 billion. Futures on the Standard & Poor's 500 Index rose 13.90 to 872.50 at 7:50 a.m. in New York, indicating the index will rise 1.8 percent when trading resumes at 9:30 a.m. Dow Jones Industrial Average futures climbed 102 to 8387 and Nasdaq 100 Index futures gained 18 to 924. Profits for S&P 500 companies probably rose for the first time in 1 1/2 years during the second quarter, gaining 0.4 percent, according to Thomson First Call. Analysts expect earnings to rise 12 percent this quarter and 24 percent in the fourth quarter. ``Every piece of good news is welcome in this market,'' said Han van Rhee, who helps manage $2.9 billion in global stocks at F. Van Lanschot Bankiers in Amsterdam. ``Cisco should have a positive influence today.'' Rhee's firm bought U.S. stocks in July. It stopped buying after reports signaled the economic recovery is faltering. In the past week, government and industry reports showed growth lagged expectations, fueling concern the economy may relapse into recession. Cisco Earnings Cisco rose 83 cents to $12.90 on Instinet. The company said fiscal fourth-quarter earnings jumped to $772 million from $7 million a year earlier as demand for its products and services rebounded. Cisco earned 14 cents a share, excluding certain costs, topping analysts' estimates by 2 cents. The company also boosted its share-buyback plan by $5 billion to $8 billion. Cisco has outpaced rivals because most of its customers are large corporations, universities and government agencies that are maintaining spending, rather than phone companies that are slashing budgets. Juniper, the world's second-biggest manufacturer of gear for directing Internet traffic, added 37 cents to $7.85 in Germany. JDS Uniphase Corp., the world's largest maker of parts for fiber- optic gear, rose 10 cents to $2.47. Intel, the largest semiconductor maker, rose 60 cents to $17.73 on Instinet and Microsoft Corp., the largest software maker, climbed 58 cents to $46.25. Newmont Mining Corp. rose 40 cents to $25.35 in Germany. The world's largest gold producer reported second-quarter profit that beat analysts' expectations after gold prices climbed and the company sold a stake in a rival. Alcoa Drops Alcoa Inc. fell 28 cents to $24.69 in Germany. Moody's Investors Service cut its credit rating on the world's biggest aluminum company by one level to A2, citing concern about falling prices for the metal and its debt-financed acquisitions. TMP Worldwide Inc. may drop when exchanges open after declining in overnight trading. The owner of the Monster.com job- search Web site said it will cut more jobs and lowered its profit forecast after revenue tumbled for a fourth straight quarter. | ![]() blockbuy
07/8/2002 13:30 | sp, the 1 m is for the employee & needs times to enter the market. Sigora, honestly the buying pressure must be higher than yesterday to break $3. | oaklandsway |
