I believe CRODA have an AGM on thursday

Should be upbeat on Q1 and outlook for the year

24/02/04 LONDON (SHARECAST) - Yorkshire-based chemicals group Croda which makes the basic ingredients for make-up to plastic bags, said full year profits rose and 2004 trading had started well.

The group added that costs related to job cuts and the closure of units also helped it post full year pre-tax profit up 2% to £38.5m. The dividend was also increased 3% to 11.85p.

Croda added that trading has started well in 2004 with results ahead of this time last year. "The current weakness of the US Dollar against Sterling is, however, of some concern," it said.

"In a year when the world economy faced a number of disruptions and Europe saw little or no economic growth, we believe we did well to achieve a similar level of sales and operating profits on continuing operations compared to last year," said chairman, Antony Beevor.

Croda managed to reduce net debt by £23m to £29m.

Two known negatives, dollar earnings and pension deficit seem to me to be already reflected in the current price of 257p. Two recent directors purchases of 4000 shares each at approx 250p were encouraging.

I am a long term holder of CRDA. They are in a highly specialised field and are a very sound company. I think fair value is around 325 and divi is safe. All IMHO and DYOR.

General business upturn, plus specialist nature of crda suggest a rerating this year?
opportunities for takeover should be coming onto radar screens this year, but weakness of dollar could limit this to European groups, such as Henkel.
So...

Any views on 'fair value' in the event of a takeover?

How safe is the dividend?

Welcome views before I take the plunge!

Interim results shortly. The likes of Henkel and Givaudan could well take a closer look at them........ My first buy was 239 and have been adding on the way up. Much more to come, IMHO

Anyone following this.......frequenttrader bought into this stock recommends it for the next few weeks in these turbulent times. Below is the summary from a technical point of view courtesy of INVESTTECH.COM, any comments from anybody????

"Has broken the ceiling of the falling trend, which indicates a slower initial falling rate.
Support and resistance: The stock has broken up through the resistance at 224 p. This predicts a further rise. "

Croda International PLC reported 2002 pretax profit rose to
36.3 mln stg from 31.7 mln a year earlier, and said it is "well-placed" for
further progress in 2003.
The group said that figure hit a 23 pct rise in profits from continuing
operations, while sales edged higher to 314 mln stg from 312 mln in the year to
December, while sales from continuing operations rose to 295 mln from 286 mln.
The dividend was raised to 11.5 pence per share from 11.3 pence. Net debt
was reduced by 11.5 mln stg to 52.1 mln and the gearing cut to 32 pct.
Chairman Antony Beevor said the 2002 results show the "resilience" of
Croda's core business and the wisdom of its strategy of concentrating on
personal and health care sectors.
He said the group has restructured its European oleochemicals business from
the start of 2003 to increase the focus on growth in core markets.
"We believe therefore that in 2003, organic growth, new product deliveries
and the exit from low return businesses will mean that we are well placed for
further progress," he said.

Just looked at this one again and if the ftse is going to rally during this week I see a move to the upside. Indicators in the oversold zone and turning and a possible range being established between 250p - 270p - 280p.

One to watch the volume action on. No position as yet.

NOw up 8 points, 3.4% and over 1m already traded. Could be one of those 3-4 million days. Some big players seem to be piling in might be worth letting this one run for a while.

Now changed my mind when I saw all the MMs starting to mark down. Will defintiely go up again but hoping to re-enter at a lower price - not going to hold over w/e though - too long for things to happen so will settle for 15 points, doesn't sound so much.

NOw +12 points, over 5% - hmm, almost upto the 200 day mark around the 255p area. Will keep going on Tuesday or will it give a little back? Think it might try for 255p today before stagnating a little. Indicators are good for continued increase however.
