Boris Johnson reiterated his support for the Northern Powerhouse Rail (NPR) scheme and said he was committing £9bn - a "serious slug of money" - to the route between Leeds and Manchester which would cut journey times from 50 minutes to less than half an hour.

Which will NOT be HS2

A reminder that you have to be careful about what you read.
I got an email edition today of Master Investor which had an article on Costain.
I was surprised to read about Costain International activity.
As per the latest AR revenue ex UK and Spain in 2018 was nil and £4m in 2017.

The CEO says...

...We have launched our new 'Leading Edge' strategy which places greater emphasis on leveraging the Group's strong blue-chip client relationships, and reputation for complex programme delivery, through an accelerated deployment of higher margin services...blah blah blah...

I have direct knowledge of one significant 'client relationship'.

My contact says that COST are cutting staff numbers in an attempt to show a profit. This has led to a very stressful and difficult time for all involved. I can't share any detail.

It says to me that either CEO doesn't know what is really happening on the ground or is lying.

Don't see much comparison between Renew and Costain - the former is primarily in maintenance of infrastructure, the latter tends towards constructing it.

Still think fall is way overdone, prospects for growth next year seem as good as peer Renew holdings , so should be at least £2.50 even taking account of the level of additional risk attached to COST.

That is true there is an awful amount of money already spent on HS2 but it is certainly in the balance as I said earlier I would t over expose myself to this share but at these prices a good risk/reward holding for the longer term portfolio

Thanks for that on the HS2 review, markycrispy. This will be a cloud over the share price for the rest of the year and perhaps beyond given possibility of a new government.

Interim DividendIn line with the Group's dividend policy, the Board has declared an interim dividend of 3.8 pence per share (2018: 5.15 pence per share). The dividend will be paid on 18 October 2019 to shareholders on the register as at the close of business on 13 September 2019.The Board recognises the importance of regular dividends to shareholders and the Group will continue to target dividend cover of around 2.5 times underlying earnings. The Board is committed to growing the dividend in line with earnings over the medium term.

I agree a good set of results and early share price increase makes sense.
Dividend payment sensible and decision to pay their suppliers more quickly caught my eye.
