I think Africa is fascinating because apart from (I think) Ethiopia the continent was under various European rule. Each European state left its own mark which affected the fortunes of the people when they became independent.

Like the Former Yugoslavia which was made up of around 7 semi autonamous regions when Tito died, some African states also suffered when they became independent. I am not saying that African states should be still ruled by Europeans but it could and should have been a more orderly transfer of power.

Concerning Yugoslavia, each republic elected tyrants as leaders who took the country into war. If this had not happened Yugoslavia would have been in the EU 10 years ago as it was a prosperous nation when together. In my opinion Germany and the Vatican the first states to recognise Croatia (its former wartime ally) was responsible for the carnage and murder which followed.

In Africa, France, Spain and Italy controlled many of the Northern and Arabic states. Britain, Portugal, Germany and Belgium contolled the rest.Belgium was dominent in Central Africa and their rule and handover (IMO) regarding independence was the most difficult. Hence they are partly to blame (along with the French who secretly supported the Hutus)for the massacres 15 years ago.

Thanks JonC

And I hope you and your family have a great Christmas too.

I did not expect to get the job to be honest but I love Africa. A continent which is fascinating and where I will be based is in my opinion one of the most beautiful parts with the nicest people despite the appalling things that happened 15 years ago.

Before I start I hope to get to the World Cup in South Africa.

Thanks calamity

I will be having another chin wagging session with shareholders over this weekend. Then on Sunday it's off with the family for a 3 day break to Morocco. I have been dealing with some other matters lately but always welcome any information which might be new.

I see from delabeb's post that Mr Allnutt's friend possibly still frequents these boards. Sounds to me as he may have received his 100K gratuity. All the best my friend - spend it wisely.

Haven't posted here before but hold a small amount of shares (4000) from the days of Europasia and before (dotcom era). However you may or not be aware that the registrars have informed me by e-mail on an enquiry i made with regard to the current position of the company and shares after delisting, that the register for share holders is being taken in house after 31st December and they, Capita, will no longer hold the register of shareholders.
See e-mail reply below :-

Dear Sir
I confirm that your share certificate in the name of Europasia Education plc dated 17th November 2005 is a valid share certificate for your holding. We do have your current address registered.

We have not had any further information from the company about the shares at this time. Please note that as from 31st December 2009 we will no longer for the company and the register will be taken In-House.

Yes folks - 2009 will be remembered as a year when greed, deception, incompetance and fraud were firmly kicked into touch. Roll on next year when I would suggest that the activities of more offenders will come under the public spotlight.
