Codemasters Group Holdings (LON:CDM) – another bidder about to pounce?Despite the directors of the Cambridge-based video games developer eyeing very large bonus payments due to speeding on the Nasdaq-listed Take-Two International's cheap bid for their group, it appears that another couple of interested parties are on the sidelines.Ubisoft or Liberty Media?I mentioned a few weeks ago that Ubisoft, the French games group had recently raised some €600m for future expansion. Meanwhile, Liberty Media, the Formula One owner, has also raised a big chunk of fresh funds recently, about $800m.Could either of these two companies come in with a bid for Codemasters?Top fund manager Crispin Odey has staked his bet on another bidFund manager Crispin Odey certainly thinks either or both could well be close to making a play for the group. His Odey Asset Management has built up a 3% stake in Codemasters. It would be like old times if we see some counter-bids shining through in the smaller company sector. The shares closed last night at around 516p. More fun in store?(Profile 25.06.19 @ 225p set a Target Price of 278p*)Mark Watson-Mitchell takes a look at two companies that could soon be subject to M&A activity...?Amino Technologies is worth tuning intoAmino Technologies is a market leader in

Times article on CDM: Watch for white knight, says Odey

It's behind a paywall but the conclusion seems to be: "Odey Asset Management, which owns nearly 3 per cent of the games developer, speculated that either the owner of Formula One motor racing or Ubisoft, the French video games group, could launch bids."

Managed to contact Halifax today. They're not going to create a "corporate action" for this vote - you need to contact them directly to register your vote.

I asked why no corporate action and they said I was the first person to ask for my voting preference to be noted.

Sold original stake (£) this morning at 512p and left approx half of shares bought 'in for nothing', reason being want some cash T + 2 if there are bargains in next few days if we get no deal. Otherwise would have been tempted to hold, as consensus seems offer underwhelming.

I think it likely that this bid will be rejected in the first instance, then be improved and accepted. However, that all takes time and the market has had a strong run lately.

The price has risen to a decent premium versus the original bid at 485 and also a premium to the theoretical price at current share prices, which was 500p earlier today.

I was starting to get nervous on the risk reward front so sold at 512.5p today.

Good luck to all holders.

PS The corporate governance still stinks. But that’s AIM for you.

PPS Ali, I think it’s 16th Dec, but details are on the Investors section of CDM website.

Its a sector thats gone from being ignored to overbought as so often happens. Five years back everyone ignored FDEV as it hovered around £2 for ages. When that started getting attention, CDM,TM17 and SUMO all floated pretty quick as interest in the sector picked up.
It echoes the euphoria surrounding the sector in the late 90s/00s when EID was the darling of the stockmarket and RGE,SEG,WHOG and AGT all floated as punters couldnt get enough of "Britsoft". All came to an end when Eidos threw all the money they were earning down the toilet on stupid acquisitions and insane director renumerations/bonuses. Not sure the same will happen this time but the sector does look valued to perfection with a lot of interest and thats often a sign outperformance is in the rearview mirror.

How much attention do shareholders complaining that the offer is too low actually pay to Codemasters games and player responses?

One good metric of the popularity of games is number of Twitch viewers (i.e. people watching others play live on the biggest streaming site). Lately every time I check the number for Dirt 5 - CDM's much-touted new next-gen release - it's in single figures, which indicates a troubling lack of interest. They can't be happy with that result, given how expensive these games are to develop. F1 is more popular, but can it keep driving the company's growth on its own?

Rather than CDM being undervalued, I think it only looks cheap next to UK peers like FDEV and TM17, which are exceptionally expensive, as investors seem to have pretty exuberant visions of unending growth.

Well ilovefrogs, I'm a long term investor not a short term trader so if the share price falls in the short term then I wouldn't be that bothered. But if there are sufficient votes to block the deal then clearly the majority of shareholders believe the offer price isn't enough - so I'm not sure the stock would drop as you suggest.

I'm not necessarily against the deal in principle (and will probably carry on with Take Two shares if it does go though) but I believe the price is too low.

If we get a better offer from Take Two or from someone else then that would also be a good result IMO.

If the deal fails and no-one else comes out of the woodwork to buy, the stock will drop 20% in short order IMV. Be careful what you wish for would be my message...........
