yes - i also see it as a quality outfit with its sotp worth far more than 680p - happy to hold and enjoy the large dividend - when true value is realised it will be much higher.

just bought in - with results on Monday I will find out soon enough how far this is overdone. The one thing I know about this company is that it is one of the best run in the City.

Absolutely agree 100% with you (GHK), CBG shares look cheap

Ridiculously low P.E.G ratio making them a "value" buy

Up until today I've been quietly sat on the sidelines monitoring events at CBG but now I'm convinced that the potential upside is greater than any potential downside.

I have therefore stepped back in, and bought 1,000 shares - I'm thinking potential upside of at least £10 per share

Worst case scenario, sit on the them, collect the juicy dividends and wait for the company to either be aggressively broken up or CBG management unbundle the businesses

A good recovery bet, in my view.

UK...please do not get me wrong....I was only asking as I hold several thousand, and in this climate I dont mind holding if I know that there is a realistic chance of a bid.... I appreciate your cander!

roidstermuthafukk.....I'm not going to "incriminate" myself, with potentially false or erroneous accusations of insider dealing. I personally do NOT currently have any shares in Close Brothers Group plc.I do however know the company well from my days as a Stockbroker and I still have good friends who work at Winterflood Securities.

Looks like to me they are just waiting in the wind.....agree they are NOT going to make an offer for close brothers! They want PART of it! Come on CBG get your fingers out and get this sorted!

Landsbanki - Statement regarding Close Brothers Group plc


Landsbanki advises that the announcement (Number HUG1184266) today
was was an unauthorised release - the correct version is as below.

Landsbanki Islands hf. ('Landsbanki') notes the recent announcement
from Cenkos Securities plc regarding its intention not to make an
offer for Close Brothers Group Plc ('Close Brothers'). Landsbanki
will therefore not be acquiring the banking business of Close
Brothers in an arrangement with Cenkos as outlined in Landsbanki's
announcement dated January 14 2008.

For the purposes of Rule 2.8 of the City Code on Takeovers and
Mergers (the 'City Code') Landsbanki therefore confirms that it has
no present intention of making an offer for Close Brothers Group plc.

Pursuant to Rule 2.8 of the City Code, Landsbanki reserves the right
to announce an offer or possible offer or make and participate in an
offer or possible offer for Close Brothers and/or take any other
action which would otherwise be restricted under Rule 2.8 of the City
Code within the next six months if there is a material change in
circumstances or in the event that:

(i) the agreement or recommendation of the board of Close
Brothers is given to an offer from Landsbanki or from a person with
whom Landsbanki is acting in concert or to a joint offer from
Landsbanki and a concert party;

(ii) a third party makes a firm offer for Close Brothers;
or

(iii) Close Brothers announces a whitewash proposal or a
reverse takeover.
