DECEMBER 31.12.09
UPDATED TODAY

By any standards, 2009 was a hugely exciting year for the Trust with both the share price and asset value more than doubling,
accompanied by a substantial dividend increase. In looking forward to 2010, it would probably pay to adopt a somewhat more circumspect view.
Although gold came in for profit taking in December, we still take the view that there is another leg of the bull market yet to take place.
By no stretch of the imagination can it be said that the relevant shares have participated fully in the upward move of the gold price itself,
so it might just be that the gearing element may change in favour of gold stocks.
We believe that another important factor for our markets might be increased movement in corporate activity.
Some growth economies such as China tend to be light in natural resources and we anticipate that the energy sector in particular is of special interest.
There is a huge expansion in the Chinese nuclear industry with an anticipated ten new reactors being planned,
scheduled to start construction in 2010 and further plants planned thereafter*. Interestingly,
little mention is made as to where the physical uranium might come from and huge undeveloped deposits such as those
operated by Extract could be of particular interest. We believe that the rare earths sector will continue to perform well and the Trust
is well represented with holdings of Neo Material Technologies and Lynas Corp. If we were to make one prediction,
it is that currency upheavals will continue to dominate.
It remains possible that sterling could have another disappointing year which would have a positive effect on the portfolio.
2010 promises to be another exciting year.

NAV opening up a wide discount again after todays rises i have it at a 20% discount which is crazy in this sector. A great trading buy at this price with possible corporate action in EXT which makes up over 10% of this fund.

hi washbrook, i of course still hold. I dont expect much excitement from this for a few months except of course the potential for a sterling devaluation which would be positive on the whole (for this).

Happy christmas

I always look forward to today the shortest day of the year in Formby.
Since I moved here from Worsley near Manchester in December 2001.
We can all look forward to the longer days and the coming of Spring 2010.
Last time last year times were grim with the sinking of a few institutions in the U.S.
Cyn was at 77.5p this time last year move up of 142%
.Would I be a seller now?No,
UK gold was at £575.5 as I write it is £684.81 a move up of 18.99%.
The coming year should be eventful.
