I have done the table below for the current performance to date this year.
£ and $ gold Index-various main indices-and commodity type Investment Trusts.
Note how cyn has outperformed GB gold.
All are up save WAR LOAN 3.5%- In the Gilt Market epic codes-T22(ILstock)is the leader up10.07% the laggard is T2H 2.5% treasury down 10.92%.
In the US the bond market says we are in for deflation-I think the UK market is a little different.

You have done well.
I first started buying in this current cycle BRCI in October as well as BRWM.
I first bought the latter when they came to the market around 1993 they were called Mercury World Mining. You got free warrants 1 warrant for 10 shares. They were issued at £1.( currently £5.58-touched 791p in May last year, they went as low as 73.5p in 2000.I was ill in hospital early January of this year , my wife on visiting kept me up with the latest BRCI price, that cheered me up & the shares moved strongly.
I sold them in January and moved into CYN.
I have taken profits and realised I had made a mistake bought them back within a couple of days a little higher I do not regret this.
I have a lot of these & bought warrants a month ago.
I will be exercising my warrants at the end of the month I am not selling.
In any pull back I will buy some more.
I am going to hedge my position with a GOLD or FTSE 100 PUT covered warrant put.
That will be insurance against any fall from here.I feel in my bones the market is going a long way down within the next few years
In my bones Gold is going to £760GOLD(currently £648.
Enough for now the dog wants a walk.

I agree inflation is the biggest worry and gold is good place to be at this moment. However, I do not want all my eggs in one basket and there are other real assets that can protect you. Most of my investments are with UK companies whose earning capacity is not in the UK.

PS. Showing an 88% average increase on my investments with CYN

Inflation or Deflation round the corner.
Many experts say we are going to get hyper inflation.Other experts say the opposite.
The US Treasury now has massive debt.
The market dated bonds the yields are very little.
Gold is going higher and the major fiat currencies are weakening(save the gold producers.)
In the 1930s we were on the gold standard and we had massive deflation.
I am an ordinary chap who just want's to protect myself.
There are massive debts world wide that are sitting on bank balance sheets and the major Central Banks.
I would be obliged if we had a few comments.
US $ index is weak-hence gold up.

FOR all those who are interested in the markets.

Fred Stafford is a lovely chat and very sincere.

The speaker is his son.
He started to get interested in Gann when years ago his son had an accident & I think he had to go in hospital.
Passing the time he bought a book in a second hand book store & now he is one of the best.

hi washbrook yes i own GPM as well. Can you have too much of a good thing!

I only bought them a few weeks ago at 45p but still showing a healthy gain, i have very little in my portfolio now other than NCIM stocks. Apart from that i hold platinum australia, hoschild and last week i bought endeavour mining. A canadian mining investment house trading at around 50% of NAV.

I did have a lot of property stocks but have sold all of them now after this years run. Seeing as i own a house that is enough exposure to that sector i feel!

The US owe over 12 trillion dollars. At a $1000 per ounce gold price, that's 12 billion ounces of gold. According to estimates, only 4-5 billion ounces of gold have been produced since the beginning of time. This assumes either: a lot of Treasury debt is going to be defaulted on OR the dollar price of gold is going much higher than $1000. But how much higher? Does your analysis give you any inkling about what a proper dollar price is for gold? I read there are 20 trillion dollars of currency circulating around the world converted back into U.S. dollars. If there are 5 billion ounces, that's $4000 an ounce for all the currency to be fully backed by gold or $2000 to be 50% backed."

Brucie5.Thanks for your input.
You can buy these easily.Take the warrants which are execised at the end of October are cheap compared to the ordinary.for example A&B

A-2500 ordinary at 186p =£4683.25 (inc costs)
B-2500 warrant at 95p=£2396.88(inc costs)plus 2500@ 85p=£2125-Total cost=£4521.88.
Therefore B is costing you 180.875p whilst- A is costing you 187.33p.
Of course you have to have permission with your stockbroker.
Which for some if you deal on line can be done in a matter of minutes.
Also as Jonnyboy points out CYN is on a big discount.
Take these 10 stocks I have been in & out of them this year.
I compiled 10 InvestmentTrust Stocks of £25000 each =£250000 on the 23.3.2009.
Notice that CYN is on the biggest discount of all 10 but has easily beaten the other 9.
NOTE THIS IS A DUMMY Portfolio( I only wish I had done itil-the reason I compiled the portfolio was try to find the bottom of the market alas the initial portfolio did not go lower than from the start.

If you believe in the company strategy, the management, then there is always a good opportunity to buy. I have been adding since the beginning of the year and and there is always a tint of regret not having done so earlier, but once you have done it it doesn't matter, it is better than not all.

Washbrook thanks for the info on the thread, particularly appreciate the monthly updates, I bought more on the news of their investment strategy into rare earth metals. Would appreciate if you could put back the news links and price graphs in the header, Thanks.

Oh, and about your comment on possible issue of free warrants to holders, is that a likely scenario, is that something they might do as away of compensating shareholders for the large discount?

bruce you can buy a whole load of stocks for over 20% off, how can that not be a good opportunity? I actually believe these trusts should trade at a premium as some of the convertibles are off market and if you like the funds stock spread to buy the underlying would cost a lot in transaction fees. However, we have been here one way or another for a while so i would be biased ;)
