It's an interesting point about nationalisation,
heard one comment saying they would not necessarily guarantee ..market price.

As utilities may be killed if a Lab government looked imminent,
It may not be that relevant.

Would think there would also be international law considerations.

What does appear clear is the Tory party are focussing on an energy price cap,
May mentioned it yet again today. In that respect, Corbyn has already won
by completely altering Tory party policy, which is quite incredible.

The Tories do not have to call another election for another 5 years. Why would they - suicide.

Most fund managers/private pensions will hold Centrica - no doubt there is a lot of anger and fury out there at the continued fall here.

On the plus side with a market cap still of around £10Bn there is no danger of an exit from the FTSE100.

Dividend yielding 6.9%; only a collapse in EPS of 20-25% would see a dividend cut IMO.

I don't know the legalities but, Corbyn and his comrades cant just waltz into No10 and nationalise Centrica. The Gov would face potentially hundreds of law suits.

I'm surprised politicians don't come up with an idea like make bills vat free if you're on less than say 16k a year and abolish rip off charges if you don't pay by direct debit?

Long term charts will not help much here as 14 year lows.
Support at 175p
Dividend yield approaching 7%.
P/E 10.

It bothers me that government policy (on this and other issues) seems reduced to reacting to Corbyn rather than asserting their values. This then allows him to set the political agenda which is not good news for the real economy: if the energy companies are not allowed to make profits then where does the urgently needed investment in new UK electricity generating capacity come from?

may just said she would introduce energy bill quickly.
let us hope the cap is sensible.
They would not wish to destroy energy companies.

Greg...my thinking :

May steps down, a new Conservative leader emerges and the focus returns to Brexit. This proposed cap is forgotten about.

However, I think the Centrica and the other Energy Businesses are now totally exposed unless, and until, they stand their ground and start pushing back.

So in short, Conn is not showing any leadership here and this situation is the consequence of that. He needs to stop being a politician himself and come out fighting.

There will be no bid. Potential snap election coming in the UK.. corbyn nationalises centrica... shareholders screwed.. that's worst case but it's not as unlikely as some think.
