04/10/2017 23:05 | Energy cap 'could raise bills' warn consumer groups Martin Lewis, founder of MoneySavingExpert.co ''A price cap done wrong can do more harm than good. Some in the Tories have called for a relative price cap which means a firm's most expensive price can only be a set percentage more than the cheapest. That's self-defeating it means they'll just withdraw cheap deals. Richard Neudegg, head of regulation at uSwitch.com added: We have warned repeatedly that a widespread price cap will not improve the retail energy market as some think it will. | justiceforthemany

04/10/2017 19:59 | To be accurate, Maggie was a poor conference speaker, embarrassing at times. But she was a great PM, at least until she lost it later on. | careful

04/10/2017 19:53 | I watched Theresa Mays speech today. She had bad luck with the cough, idiot p45 prank and falling letters off the board behind her. But I thought she did very well and could improve further from this low point. | careful
04/10/2017 19:52 | What niggles me is that the theme of this conference is supposed to be the benefits of capitalism over Socialism, yet everything they're spouting are Lettie policies. Maggie stood up for her beliefs against massive resistance and opposition but I'm afraid TM is a poor shadow of her. I believe both Boris and Davis have the resilience to fight their corner but unfortunately the party doesn't have the bottle to ditch her for a stronger option. The party is destroying itself trying to keep up with Corbyn instead of totally ignoring him and concentrating on Conservative values. | warranty
04/10/2017 19:50 | So if the Government really wanted to reduce energy prices, they could remove VAT. They could do it quickly and its within their control and it would be very popular..but of course they want their cut from the energy customers don't they. Still absolutely amazed no comment from Conn or Centrica that I can find...where is he ??? | 4seeaproblem

04/10/2017 19:13 | Minerve whether portside1 was just lucky guessing or not he must have thought May putting a price cap on would damage CNA badly, I don't think it was just luck. It's never easy guessing where the share price is going, I've done it many years and buy and sell in the £ millions each year.I got it wrong today and bought at 1.86, not expecting it to go that low, still think it's been oversold and will go back up with the div on the 12th, let's hope for a good day tomorrow it can't be worse than today | jpjohn1
04/10/2017 18:44 | May's pledge on 'rip-off' energy prices keeps UK in dark over cap on bills ‘Big six’ did not appear to like it, but lack of clarity in speech and clarifications suggest cap is unlikely to come in time for winter Theresa May’s pledge to cap “rip-off&rdquo The prime minister promised to introduce a draft bill next week to give the energy regulator, Ofgem, powers to cap the bills of people being “punished&rdqu But the Conservatives later admitted that they were only giving Ofgem the powers to impose a cap for everyone on a standard variable tariff, not actually ordering the regulator to impose it. | justiceforthemany

04/10/2017 18:01 | May is a fumbling weak woman who should not be in charge of this country. She is playing right into the hands of Labour and the EU and is going to ultimately ruin the country as a result. The Conservative Party needs a new stronger leader who will stand up for the UK. | gaffer73
04/10/2017 17:16 | M, it's extraordinary. I've never known UK politics in such a state of rapid flux. The only reference I can think of is Thatcher's soaring popularity during the Falklands war, from trailing badly in opinion polls prior to the invasion. | essentialinvestor
04/10/2017 17:14 | Lets not mention the credit card debt burden and their interest rates... Politicians only ever tinker around the edges of easy target stuff, while real problems get left behind. They're just doing what influences the masses and the masses are getting more stupid by the minute. | yump
04/10/2017 17:12 | Very true Essential. I don't think a price cap would have been mentioned today if it hadn't been for Corbyn's pledge of nationalization. They are hoping to steal the thunder by showing a strong hand and trying to demonstrate regulated markets work. | minerve

04/10/2017 17:09 | It shows how much Corbyn has altered the political narrative. Anyone remember the Tory party reaction to Ed's proposals?. Now just 3 years later.. not just a freeze, but a cap. | essentialinvestor

04/10/2017 16:57 | Not surprised at the markets over reaction today.Am going to let the dust settle but maybe todays low the bottom?Lets hope so.Onwards and upwards!Still think any price cap will be a completely watered down affair.Would like Mr Conn start earning his salary starting with communicating with his shareholders. | susiebe
04/10/2017 16:57 | jpjohn1 No one can call a share price. If TM hadn't mentioned a cap the price wouldn't be down roughly 6% today. End-of-story. Portside's call was just luck. Credit where credit is due. | minerve
04/10/2017 16:46 | Hats off to you portside1, you said it you hit £1.75 by the end of October, it hit £1.76,80 today. I thought no way would it go down like that, it was a good call by you. Had big loss today like a lot of others holding. Happy now to collect dividend and let it go back up in its own time. I think this surprised a lot of us how bad it was hit today !! | jpjohn1 |
