              CELTIC APPOINTS NEW DIRECTOR OF FOOTBALL OPERATIONS
                               & NEW HEAD COACH
                                       
Celtic Football Club today (10/6/99) announced the appointments of Kenny
Dalglish as Director of Football Operations and John Barnes as Head Coach.

Kenny takes up the position of Director of Football Operations with immediate
effect, reporting to Chief Executive Allan MacDonald.  He will also be
appointed to the Board of the football operations subsidiary of Celtic plc.

Former Celtic Captain, Kenny is responsible for overseeing the management and
development of Celtic's entire football operation.  His role covers selection
and recruitment, youth development and support of the first team Head Coach.

Kenny Dalglish commented:

"I am delighted to return to Celtic at this exciting time as Director of
Football Operations.  The work which has been done in the last few years at
Celtic has provided the Club with a solid platform on which to build and I am
looking forward to working with others who share my aim of taking Celtic to
the next level and re-establishing the Club as a major force in European
football.  The challenge is one I relish and I am confident that we can again
achieve success at the highest level."

Former England and Liverpool forward John Barnes has been appointed as
Celtic's new Head Coach, a position he will take up immediately.  John will be
directly and solely responsible for first team management.

John Barnes commented:

"I am honoured to be appointed as Head Coach to a Club of Celtic's stature.  I
am well aware of Celtic's tremendously passionate and committed support and I
am looking forward to working as Head Coach to bring these supporters the
success which they deserve.  I am also excited to be teaming up with Kenny
Dalglish and the squad of quality players at Celtic and I look forward to the
challenge which lies ahead."

"On behalf of the Board of Celtic plc, I am pleased to welcome Kenny Dalglish
back to Celtic in the important role of Director of Football Operations and
John Barnes new Head Coach.

"The new football management team will be working closely with Jozef Venglos
to ensure a seamless transfer of responsibility.  Jozef will then take up the
role of European Technical Adviser to Celtic Football Club.
