CARD TS on 14th January |
There is absolutely nothing negative amount the Moonpig announcement (I also hold them). They only announced their interims last month and they have always provided an 11 month provisional year end update at the end of March/early April for their year end (30 April). |
Moonpig will give a trading update on 3rd April. That sounds a bit negative to me on their performance. Card should update in 2 weeks like all retailers should just after peak. |
Well Said! |
Problem with the xmas stockings Volsung? ;-) |
We've had: 1. Notice of being on track into December 2. An accretive acquisition in the US, where the opportunities are ripe for us on multiple fronts at the moment. 3. Independent expansion into the US 4. All the signs that online will grow significantly this year, signalling momentum. If our offering proves as disruptive online as it did offline, then that is really exciting, but I'd expect it just to be a nice contributor given the online market is small. 5. Three directors buying up shares at around the current price level. 6. More positive anecdotal stories than one can shake a stick at.
Honestly, it's only when the 'obviously going to happen' happens that this company gets appreciated. If you did the analysis at almost anytime over the last 3-4 years and took a significant holding at the pandemic lows having realised the strength of the business, then, like me, you probably chuckle at the swings in opinion here. It's one of the best retailers in the country valued like one of the worst, which has been a boon for me!

Went to another shop y'day and having been well down on the quarter v target (poor weather etc) they came back strongly over Christmas and beat their target for the quarter comfortably. Feeling increasingly confident about this. PE of 7 seems ludicrous. |
A Senior Independent Non-Executive Director buying now at ~97p, yes that makes three of them in less than 4 weeks :) |
Not a lot, every little helps.
Notification of dealings by a director/PDMR
cardfactory has been notified that on 30 December 2024, the Company's Senior Independent Director, Pam Powell, purchased in aggregate, 5,109 ordinary shares of 1 pence each in the capital of the Company ("Ordinary Shares") at a price of £0.969774 per share. |
Yep, all positive. |
bigbigdave, this is in addition to director purchases by the CEO and CFO in December. |
Small Director buy |
Well the Partner ist Kohls. Garven ist additional. For me the questuon ist really how good are partnershipa for the margin. A good retailer Like Aldi has a margin of 5%. While Card factory once Had one of 19%, so there is still some Work to do for Darcy and Matthias to get our Cash Maschine back in track. |
Found this on Garven website. One of its customers is Walmart so that gives access to all the US States. Maybe there aren’t two US ventures.
Garven Design Group is a leader in the gift packaging, stationery, novelty gifting and wall decor categories. I still think there are two US ventures, The purchase of Garven, a manufacturer of cards and packaging I think, is only one of them. Prior to that purchase CF said they had a partnership with a wholesaler that gave access to all the American States in time for Christmas. |
You never know, maybe they're being smart and under-promising on the US venture's immediate impact...or maybe they're not :-) |
Have you ever seen anyone buying cards in either of them ? |
The additional concessions in Aldi and Matalan should have helped with the festive sales. Progress in the US would also really help though if it's not too soon to expect that? |
I think the exciting thing here is the expansion into the US market. They mention negligible impact upon this year but, imo, the potential expansion this deal opens up is exponential.
Just have to hope they didn't bomb over Christmas in the UK :-) |
This is the update on Dec 5 when they announced purchase of Garven.
Trading Update
Trading in the second half to date has been in line with our expectations and we have been encouraged by the start of the Christmas season. Our programme of productivity and efficiency savings, as announced at our Interim results in September 2024, also remains on track. Our expectations for the full year are unchanged, albeit we are yet to trade through the peak Christmas trading period. We will provide a further update to the market in our January trading statement which is scheduled for 14 January 2025. |
Took an initial position here this morning after having previously been in and out during 2017 - 2018. |
Thank you :-) |
