CAE to provide CF-18 systems engineering support services
MONTREAL, June 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- (NYSE: CGT; TSX: CAE) - CAE has
been awarded a one-year, C$23 million contract by L-3 Communications MAS
(Canada) Inc., to continue providing avionics software upgrades, integrated
logistics support and data management services for the Canadian Forces CF-18
aircraft. The contract includes one additional base year and three option years
which could bring the total value to more than C$100 million over the next five
years, if all options are exercised.
"By integrating the latest software and systems in the aircraft, we play a key
role in the mission readiness of the CF-18 aircraft," said Donald W. Campbell,
CAE's Group President, Military Simulation and Training. "We're pleased that
following its acquisition of this business, L-3 saw value in the work being
done by CAE and extended the relationship."
L-3 MAS became prime contractor on the CF-18 service and support program
following its acquisition of Bombardier's Military Aviation Services business
in November 2003. CAE has been performing systems engineering support services
for the CF-18 fleet since 1986.
"Our track record with CAE on this program made our decision easy," commented
Sylvain Bedard, President, L-3 MAS. "The quality of CAE's work and our
relationship to date give us complete confidence as we go forward."
As part of this contract, CAE will modify avionics software for the CF-18 fleet
and will also modify ground-based test facilities and simulators to test new
software systems prior to implementation. CAE will provide logistics support
for the fleet, including development of the data management system that is used
to track all maintenance and support of each aircraft.
