"Abstract
The present invention relates to phlorotannins with anti-viral properties, in particular those with a molecular mass of from about 1000 g/mol to about 3000 g/mol, which may be obtained or obtainable as an extract from seaweed, including the use of the phlorotannins or the extract as an anti-viral agent. In addition, the use of the phlorotannins or the extract in a composition with anti-viral properties and the use of said composition as an anti-viral agent."

It references among others this World IPO application published June 2020 "ANTI-VIRAL COMPOSITION"

Almost a year since we had this. Any patent detectives out there?

Award of GBP350k grant to investigate anti-viral properties of seaweed

Byotrol plc (AIM:BYOT), the specialist infection prevention and control company, is pleased to announce that it has secured a significant grant from Innovate UK to further investigate the anti-viral properties of certain common forms of seaweed.

The total award is GBP350k over 16 months, of which GBP108k will be paid to Byotrol's academic partner, the Molecular Virology Research Group at the University of Liverpool, led by Professor James Stewart. The grant is specifically for research into seaweeds in sanitising products, but we believe the resulting discoveries will have significance outside of Byotrol's core markets, including potentially animal feedstuffs.

This grant award will help Byotrol build further on its research and development programme into developing biocides from sustainable sources. This programme, which Byotrol has been exploring for many years has demonstrated high potency anti-viral action from extracts from commonly-occurring seaweeds, the results of which have already supported a new patent filing by the Group. Byotrol expects to file further patents as the programme develops.

Trevor Francis, Chief Technology Officer of Byotrol plc commented :

We are delighted that Innovate UK is supporting our research into the anti-viral properties of seaweeds and we are very pleased to be working on this project with Professor James Stewart's excellent team at the University of Liverpool. It is a very exciting area of development for Byotrol.

Safety data sheet for this particular product linked below - eye irritation and aquatic life harm (H319 and H412) are the label hazard statements.

What I think you have picked out mudbath is the other hazards associated with the ingredients. i.e. certain ingredients (e.g. DDAC) have other hazard properties in isolation, but are present at less than 1% in the product and so don't cause a hazard warning for the product itself.

Similar hazards would of course attach to any chemical based product.
Nevertheless, those listed do make one at least take additional care when utilising this or any competing product.

They don't seem to have done a notice of results for a while, so I don't think we get that. I think we just wake up one day with the results

I get the feeling that news is being held back so institutions or their friends can get in at a lower price.

If they're still intending to get the results out this month, it must be about time for a "notice of results" RNS I would have thought. Unless after the auditing delays of the last 2 years, they don't feel like giving any more advance notice and will just issue when it's ready?

Perhaps this is seen as the successor to the Robert McBride / Tesco product, but with better byotrol branding and hopefully greater profit.

I know we're all too posh and stuck up here and probably shop it Waitrose to go to Aldi but what they do is stock very few items and only ones that SELL for them to use a product that we have or licence to do will is big

Is this a good opportunity to purchase when no news is coming out and off the radar?Cash flow I think is going to be really strong over the coming years as the minimum license payments come through and hopefully more than that.

Looks good, but nothing to say how big a roll-out there's going to be is there? It looks to me as though this is going to be 1 of several anti-viral products supplied by hycolin. So a lot may depend on how much promotion is put into it. But it can only help raise awareness of the 24 hour claim.

I imagine it will get a mention in the results release.
