It makes me laugh when people say this company is worth less than its NBV.

BMN bought a rusty old mine and then decided to put the finger in the air and say it was worth £50m more than they paid for it.

They eaid in the absence of a like for like mine they based this valuation on what it would cost them to build the same mine from scratch.

Except that new mine would be worth far more than the rust bucket they bought.

Added to this that covid and the fact the V price only retreated further and the valuation they whacked on it lacks any credibility whatsoever.

Net Asset Value is a key metric in mining but it's measured on what you would have left if you sold everything up and paid off your liabilities which is definitely not the net book value you see in their accounts.

I am loving the fact it is putting the shorters in the mire and more than that they have the brass neck to complain.

The evaluation of the 28 bids received under South Africa's Risk Mitigation Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (RMIPPPP) is anticipated to be concluded by February 2021, the IPP Office has confirmed with Engineering News. The preferred bidders, it adds, will be announced as soon as the recommendations from the evaluation team have been approved by the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE).

I sympathise with their viewpoint- precious metals are heavily 'traded' - but I doubt whether this will make any difference. Perhaps I have just become too used to this situation to believe anything will change!

Maybe, just maybe the whole thing has been allowed to get too complicated, with too many instruments skewed to make the big boys money via smoke and mirrors.A little revolution is a good thing but it could get messy first as they really don't like someone else winning at their game

What’s going on is no different to journalists, share tipsters or companies paying for favourable brokerage reports that investors use to make investment decisions. Most of it turns out to be fantasy.

The savvy investors will be in and out of these trades leaving those chasing dreams to hold the baby just like it always has been. There will still be winners and losers. Usually the little guys who can’t afford it.

The real difference here is the speed of events.

This is a fascinating story but it it's also a big big worry for financial markets and the regulators.

Chiefly being, if this was done over quaffing cigars and and expensive whiskeys in a country club, then the regulators would view it as a syndicate, they'd eventually get jailed and the principles would be heavily fined.

How on earth do you regulate it when you don't know who the participants are? then comes the other problem, if it can't be regulated and only manipulated then that erodes trust in the financial system and the services it provides.

For me, the near term existence of highly leveraged spread betting firms is at massive risk.

Gah: I agree that an ESKOM win isn’t priced in or that we are tendering. However, the market is expecting us to tender and to win based on all the information fed to us over the past 5 years. If we lose or say we were never in it anyway the share price will tank in my opinion. The expectations have been set to win and win big in South Africa.
