16/1/2017 17:38 | BT Deploys Digital Store Pilot Solution For Thomas Pink 16/01/2017 PR Newswire (US BT Group (LSE:BT.A) Today : Monday 16 January 2017 DALLAS, January 16, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- BT today announced that leading shirtmaker and luxury clothing retailer Thomas Pink has deployed the Acuitas Digital Internet of Things (IoT) platform, which helps retailers to digitize the physical store, at its Wall Street New York City store. Thomas Pink installed the pilot Acuitas Digital IoT digital store solution as part of its digital strategy. It will enable the retailer to track in real time the movement of merchandise and people around the store, use big data analytics to predict shopper behavior and provide a foundation for real-time interactive in-store experiences. This will help the retailer personalize customer service, optimize store layout, improve employee workflows, reduce cost and grow sales. | excell1

16/1/2017 14:08 | Hi JT. Yes I know all that. It's a bit more complicated. I had one installed following an engineer visit for a line fault a couple of months ago, as it was now "policy". They are being automatically installed everywhere access is gained. The new NTE 5C is, amongst other things, supposed to be more "resistant to corrosion". This is what I need as the consumer plate on my old NTE 5 failed for environmental reasons. I had fixed this myself with the purchase of a new consumer plate. Trouble is, my 'new' NTE 5C is now playing up after just a couple of months, I had the older NTE5 for decades! Even at the Test socket it was very noisy and crackly - I ended up accidentally calling the 999 emergency operator. That's 'noisy'! None of the electrical contact areas on the new NTE 5C are gold flashed and mine seemed to have oxidation on the splines in the consumer socket. I had to clean my consumer plate up myself to get back into operation. Problem first caused broadband to fail. I can't use my purchased replacement consumer plate as it is not compatible with the new unit. This new NTE 5C looks to me as if it may be going to be high maintenance, exactly the opposite of what was expected. Obviously I don't know if this is just a one off but, if it isn't... | pvb

16/1/2017 13:20 | Sounds good Dipso. Elderly sister called me at 8.00 this morning saying she had call from BT saying problem with broadband. She has phone line, no computers, router etc. I told her "scam" but astounded the law/BT allows such large scale con merchants to use their network for their evil nastiness. | dr_smith
16/1/2017 12:59 | Hi pvb. I do work for Openreach but seldom have much to do with NTE 5Cs (although I'm sure I have some kicking around on the van somewhere). Essentially, they mark the point at which O/R's responsibility ends and the customer's (End User's) responsibility starts. The two visible screws once undone, allow the bottom half of the front plate to be removed. That bottom half should have the ongoing wiring to the customer's internal premises extension wiring connected. Once removed, you will be able to see a socket into which a phone can be plugged into (larger part that remains). If the symptom you're experiencing is only apparent with the internal wiring connected, there's every chance the problem will be in the premesis (not O/R's problem - and if proven during an O/R engineering visit as such, you're likely to be charged). However, if the problem, such as noise or ring-trip, is still apparent at the socket revealled when the bottom plate has been removed, it's likely to be a problem with the line en-route to the house. This is usually O/R's responsibility to repair, but not necessarily. For instance, it is (or was) my understanding that the home owner could still be liable for charges if the problem was due to over-head wires damaged by trees on the customer's premises - or, if the cable comes to a house underground, if you've cut through the cable whilst digging in a fence post (for instance) you could get charged in those circumstances too. Please don't take any of the above as gosple - it's a while since I did this sort of work and you'd be well advice to seek clarification when reporting a fault. Hope this helps, JT. | jenny tulwought
16/1/2017 12:56 | News on BBC website "BT has developed a breakthrough service called BT Call Protect to help customers avoid nuisance calls on their landline by diverting a whopping 30 million calls a week to junk voicemail." This is a free service. I think it could give a big boost to customer numbers. | dipso
