09/6/2018 06:56 | From the Guardian@ "Patterson will continue to be paid his usual monthly salary until his successor is appointed, after which point he will be entitled to up to 12 monthly payments covering his basic salary, benefits and bonus. Based on current projections, that means he could walk away with about £2.3m, in line with his salary and bonus last year." | ![]() toon1966
09/6/2018 00:18 | As I can’t sell at these prices I rely on the divi so don’t want it cut. Especially now Plessis has signed off on retaining current level for two years. Relaxation by ofcom or hmc agreement/investment in fibre is needed and tbh the public need to step up too and pay more. Prices at the moment are at bargain levels especially compared to the other utilities. Something for nothing doesn’t work that’s been proved BT isn’t a charity. Wouldnt surprise me if a secret deal has already been made with ofcom hence the new CEO as GP burnt his bridges. Why should shareholders pay for fibre? £3 could soon arrive reducing the divi to a less attractive 5% and back to standard FTSE levels anyway Door now open for Bt, ofcom and hmc To all save face and give the country what it needs. Ps Sharron White would make an excellent choice for CEO ...lol | ![]() pacemaker1000

08/6/2018 21:10 | Based on most recent HSBC figures I've seem forecast normalised NPAT for 2019 is expected to be around £2.9bn. On that basis div cover just under 2x, which is quite robust. Companies with sizable pension schemes/deficits need to tread warily before cutting divs much -- because of pension contribution affordability rules most schemes will have their hands out for anything not required for shareholders. Compared to other FTSE regulated entities BT's combined debt/pension liability is not particularly high, so debt repayment unlikely to be value accretive. The 'game' is really the fibre rollout. The government is long on pronouncements, many of them fatuous. However, the reality is that if it wants the pace of rollout to step up more it needs the regulator to allow attractive rates of return to be available on the INCREMENTAL expenditure. Bear in mind all the players are prioritising the low hanging fruit. Were such a development to occur (i.e. compelling rates of return on extra investment required for faster rollout) I'd expect a temporary div cut, but the market to react very positively owing to the implicit growth expected. | ![]() nicholasblake

08/6/2018 19:00 | What the hell is BT doing, keeping Gavin Patterson on until they find a replacement CEO? Have they completely lost the plot? The man has been sacked; he’s obviously bitter about it and won’t give a stuff what happens to BT now, as he won’t be working for them in 6 months time. Who in their right mind would leave any sacked man working for any company, but as CEO? It’s unbelievable. Get him out straight away; appoint an acting CEO, someone who will still be working for the firm by the end of the year. At least they will have a vested interest in doing their best for the company to further their career in it. | ![]() eaaxs06

08/6/2018 17:33 | Speculation inside BT is focused on Olaf Swantee, the former EE chief executive known for his energetic approach to restructuring and emphasis on network development. He is currently chief executive of Sunrise, a listed Swiss telecoms operator, but retains roots in the UK. At EE he worked closely with Marc Allera, now head of BT’s consumer business, who prior to Mr Patterson’s sudden exit was seen as a potential successor, although not for a year or two. | ![]() neilrich
