Bolton Blackburn etc + inflation concerns put the scuppers on the clothing retailers. Ed and Superdry went balistic and have since parred back. This dropped back to prior to today

I said that i wished i had more funds to buy more, obviously glad i didnt on this short term dip

Compare and contrast Brown's performance to that of Studio Retail who have a year end of March and will report their finals next month. They have added 500k active customers in a year when Brown's declined by 500k.Sales and profits all flying and sales growth accelerating. The price earnings ratio is about 6.Studio has 84m shares in issue so the market is tight. Schroders are big investors in Studio as well as Brown. Mike Ashley is stalking Studio holding 36%.I sold out of Brown last November that share issue was announced. I bought Studio and Reach so can't complain.DYOR but this Brown statement was predictable.

Actually thought the results themselves aren’t too bad, every business that hasn’t boomed through covid will have dumped costs in before year end and if they release the £15.4m provision in FY22 that’s a nice little profit booster. Nice to see some of the brands returning to growth in Q4.

However, what I found very disappointing is their FY22 guidance. Unless it’s incredibly over conservative owing to further potential lockdowns I don’t think 4% overall revenue growth at the top end is good enough.

They’ve massively improved the debt situation through the raise and a decent cash flow so why aren’t they throwing loads of marketing at it as everything opens up? Not expecting boohoo / asos like growth but I’d have liked to have seen at least 7% growth expected from a lower base.

John - you have a filter button.

Well, they’re still in profit, but over all, it’s a poor performance for an online retailer.

Low p/e supports the view that they will stagnate under family rule. I remember Barratts doing much the same in the ‘90s.

With so much family control there is little investors and investment companies can do to influence the board.

If the family decide we get a divi, then we will but it’s doesn’t seem very close on the horizon.

Until then we’ll just limp along I guess. All I see is disappointment ahead.

High PEs for on-line retail reflect strong growth expectations. As things stand, N. Brown is looking decidedly sluggish and anything but agile and athletic going forwards. I am long here btw but beginning to think I'm seriously overweight.

The statutory EPS of 2.63p was calculated using a weighted average shares in issue of 315m. This increases to 460m from now on thanks to the issue of 170m shares last December. For statutory EPS to stand still at 2.63p next year, profit after tax has to increase by 46%.
