#Tri Harder, good stuff, do they have an employee share scheme she can qualify for where you can buy at a discount..? and/or stuff them in the ISA and just let the compound build them for you.. :o) |
#Laurence Llewellyn Binliner, Yes definitely, I have a feeling today's the day BAT cracks 3000, if not then I won't be long, it's a £30+ share all-day long. Wife works at BAT Southampton R@D, certainly lots going on to get their new generation products to market, hence the plans for a centre of excellence build/refurb this year. |
#Tri Harder, we suspect it is a bot, some sad individual has found the time and wasted it to do some programming, what a clown..
BATS, another run at 3000 pence today..? |
Out of curiosity, Who's the clown who ticks every post down? |
Redbaron10 @ Correct, no Manufacturing in the UK since they closed the Southampton plant. Several thousand people still work there,R@D only, in fact it's to become there centre of excellence for R@D worldwide, So a big build/ refurb on it's way |
redbaron - agreed US$ earners are likely to be much more valuable to us over the next few years. |
Are we building up the courage for another blast at 3000? |
GBp/USd under 1.23 now.Added cost pressures continue with the employer NI rises affecting defensive UK retailers, who employ a lot of people, denting their share prices, helping to buoy other defensive plays like BAT.I'm not sure if BAT has any manufacturing facilities in the UK now, but most employees are employed overseas. |
BAT the single-largest shareholder in ITC, will hold 15.3% stake in the hotel company after the de-merger. This will make BAT the second largest shareholder in the hospitality company after the ITC holding of 40%..
#Cameo4, thanks for sharing, I had it down as a 10% holding but BAT own more shares than I thought.. :o), still likely to be divested on completion by the look of it as it is non core, but we will have to wait and see how it pans out.. |
A bit more info on ITC hotels demerger. hxxps://www.fortuneindia.com/investing/itc-hotels-demerger-itc-share-price-discovered-at-45560-on-nse/119839 www.etnownews.com/markets/itc-demerger-how-bat-will-bat-after-itc-hotels-demerger-record-date-article-116729146 |
Yeah the RSI is turning up and I think another crack at a break and hold of 3000 is on the cards too next week.
Good luck all 👍🏻 |
IMB closed through 2600, and our turn for another run at 3000 here next week.. :o) |
Bit of a roller coaster! |
Going back to the Canadian fines being ring fenced as payable out of the Canadian business whether their cash on hand - I guess that has been built up over the years since the original judgement and not remitted to the centre - or out of future cash flows , this should absolutely be separate to the holding company. That is the point of having limited companies. Also the statement of ensuring that the fine is payable over time to stop the businesses from going into liquidation is of course more of the same. If they make the cost of continuing in business too high - i.e. greater than the sum of future cash flows - you just let it go bust and do not pay the fines.... |
In cash flow terms you would expect the USD debt to be paid out of USD earnings leaving the balance to be remitted to £'s as earnings. Also no reason to accelerate the repayment of USD debt just because the translation increases its balance sheet value.
So on the whole I think the £ falling should come out as positive. |
Not necessarily good at 1.24 as their large debt is in dollars -good for earnings translation though |
Also the GBp/USd is down to 1.24 now |
A New Year, investors repositioning their portfolios to try and make them recession-proof as much as posiible as the global economic data isn't improving? Defensives with good free cash flow to keep paying divis helps that aim? Who knows....but i'm not complaining. |
Nice UP day today. I don't see any reason for it either? |
On the ITC hotels demerger..
ITC will retain 40% of the shares in the new hotel business, and holders of ITC parent stock will receive 1 new hotel share for every 10 shares they hold in ITC..
So BATS will still own 25% of 40% (10%) indirectly plus the value of our 1:10 newly issued shares which they could keep or sell on if they are non core to interests..?
The hotels business has a steep growth pipeline already in place building the rooms volume out 3 fold, so it could be a strong asset to keep and yield the dividend income from it..? |
I can't seem to paste an article dated 26/12/24 from ndtvprofit.com which says a little bit more of the expected demerger on Jan 6th |
58.88p in the bag, ex div probably come off a bit more. |
Yeah if we go through another wave like we saw recently then so be it.
I suspect a higher low and then a new higher high will play out which is just fine with me. Being out makes no sense as the yield is so juicy and you never know when it may spike up.
Good luck all 👍🏻 |
No luck with breaking 3000 pence before XD tomorrow, but see how the share price rebuilds going forward, 25% of the ITC hotels business is a very nice chunk of the de-merger cash/shares to consider for use in 2025 and most likely de-leveraging with buybacks for 26/27.. |
In which case Canada is more like 5-6% of BATs business, surprised it is that high. The loss of profit and cash flow will make quite a dent coupled with lower contribution from trimming the India investment. Taking the shine off BAT outlook which was already dulled by a disappointing debt report blamed on adverse exchange rate movements. Does that reduce the scope for buybacks? Thaddeus needs some good news.
Major investors continuing to build powerful stakes in BAT and IMB signalling a future merger which would presumably be constructed on a no cash basis so no bonanza for private investors just a stronger investment proposition. Would save us having to wrestle with which one to back, IMB appears to have the edge for now. |
