BATS involved in corruption in most of the countries..its well established now, most of the developing countries are awaking now, started taking action..Trump hate smokers...As people hate glencore due to coal, any decent ethical investors should avoid thesese poison sellers and fraudulent companies who defroded developing and poor nations for decades...poison selling company |
#Tornado12, enough to contribute to the next BB tranche, or wipe some debt off, we will still own 25% of ITC afterwards.. :o) |
British American Tobacco (BAT), which owns a 15.3% stake in ITC Hotels, plans to divest its holding by 2026. The current value of its stake in the hotel subsidiary of ITC stands at ₹5405 crore ($623 million). |
I see the CEO has said he wants BAT to divest of its holding in ITC by 2026 as he has no interest in it.Anyone have any idea about what amounts of money we're talking about here? |
I see a parallel here to car EV story. The transition to vapes is the new Horizon but they cannot forget the cash cow of cigarettes. They do that then we are in trouble. They must win in cigs and vapes to max out returns and market changes. The sales revenue drop in US I found most alarming. Top line revenue & margin are key to BATS with so many liabilities at play. I sold 35% of my holding here, but keep faith with IMB and their actual strategy. GLA |
If growth and market share in next gen is the key to future sustainability then bats strikes me as the favourite over imb |
MM raised the price above 3100p in past as well b4 bad news came out and dropped to 2300p. In UK regulations is no regulation... |
I remember 3000 was stubborn resistance. Will this now be the major support? |
One of those days. Wish we'd all sold out yesterday. Some did, some didn't. That said, there's a 60p a quarter dividend on offer in a falling interest environment. Buy backs in progress. This is a cash generation machine. If I'd sold out yesterday would I buy back in at this price? Probably. So, some people timed it well. Well done. I don't think things are too bad. We also own 25% ish of a hugely growing hotel chain. Let's see if the upwards trend continues. |
BTI 'only' finished down 7.3% in the US.Take whatever little comfort we can on a day like this. |
Sure stunk the place out today. |
For those of us who top sliced, this is an excellent chance to top up at a lower price. Don't worry about the future. This company is far from done yet. pete |
Lack of NGP growth is the problem.Illicit vapes were mentioned plus 'we will progressively build on our delivery as we shift from investment to deployment'.You got to love 'management speak' like that!.....that's why they get paid the big bucks.Do it rather than talk about it. |
Market overshoots up Market overshoots downNothing new |
Not quite the fireworks I was hoping for, more like 1 went off in the box.. :o)A poor day after a meteoric rise through 3000 to 3400, pull backs happen, I will take my 240 pence a year income and continue to hold for many years to come, the share price is a distraction, what matters is income, see what they are worth in 2035, but it is a big ask to get to 51% revenue from NGP, see how they get on with it.. |
When buying back shares one doesn't want the stock to overheat too much and make it poor value for money....the language used was not ideal. Market doesn't like it. |
Did the market take headwinds, as a potentially profit warning? Any thoughts on that. |
A day to forget. |
Canadian litigation plus new tobacco regulations in Australia..... impact of excise and VAT duties in Bangladesh |
Here we go - I went back to look for the details of buybacks - not got there yet as I got sidetracked with finance costs - you know the other side of buybacks !
"On an adjusted, constant currency basis, net finance costs were £1,616 million, a decrease of 10.2%" "The Group has debt maturities of around £3.3 billion annually in the next two years. Due to higher interest rates, net finance costs are expected to increase as debts are refinanced."
So finance costs are going up and they want to do buybacks !
It reeks of , declining market , regulatory headwinds , subject to currency fluctuations and whims of others. So lets favour the institutions liquidity and just maybe increase EPS as well (not sure it actually will) ... cos we have run out of ideas and trying to actually manage the business is too hard.... |
I reckon Reeves will hit tobacco and vapes hard in the budget next month, trying to get more money in. |
Bit of a contrast to the PM results last week |
