I thought Pensionerinvestor's post thought provoking and his follow-up, an attempt to lighten the mood.
I'm assuming Pension.... lives in east Europe, perhaps having moved there from the UK and hence has knowledge of both places. Or, rather, the impression of what the UK is like to someone who perhaps hasn't visited in the past 6 months but gets the images from t.v., press, social media.
On another thread a poster who lives in Berlin disclosed that the average German believes the UK is a place where many people are homeless, there's considerable unemployment and hardship and was asked by German friends if relatives in the UK of this poster living in Berlin needed assistance.
How the UK is perceived abroad has ramifications for all manner of things; economic investment chief amongst such. |

I hope my previous post doesn’t violate any UK community standards. If it does I will delete it. Please don’t put me in prison. |
I’ve decided to cancel my trip to the UK in October. I don’t feel safe enough.
Let’s see whether it is safe enough next year at the shareholders meeting.
It’s so odd that I feel totally safe in Eastern Europe where I also visit these old soviet neighbourhoods and have a drink at the local pub there.. but in the UK it is too dangerous. Sad times indeed. |
Jeffries 3500p price target the other day helping shareprice, plus of course buybacks, dividends.https://uk.investing.com/news/stock-market-news/bat-picture-better-than-interims-suggested-according-to-jefferies-3631557 |
Is it safe to visit the research facility of BAT in Southampton this oktober? |
Ta s. All looking good for 30 great when it's going the right way 6k a year divi for me I'm 75 percent in cash all good gla |
Ex div again 7 weeks time. Seems to come around so quick. |
Chart looks encouraging to me: companies buyback strategy is working well and the recent interest rate cut is supportive. Looks like onwards and upwards for the time being. |
Chartists was saying 2881p. |
A much better looking TA chart now the retrace to 2670 is done and dusted, and another step closer to 2900/3000, but how long will it take to get there..:o)
Next US inflation data 11.09.24, FED rates review meeting September 18.09.2024, US job numbers point directly to a weakening economy and a cut so far, smart money buying in advance as it will be all about chasing yield returns after.. |
back to where we were thank goodness.. |
#Plastow, we make our own luck by research, patience, and having conviction in the decisions we make when we click the buy button.. :o) |
Looks like the gamble paid off atm 100 more shares on in profit with purchase after tax... Some people my have to purchase at a higher price all about timing I was lucky |
18th September for the next FED rate decision after their summer recess, every chance we can capture a stronger GBP return from USD income before then, IMB next.. :o) |
I don't believe this is a trading share. Take the quarterly dividend. Buy in at a good price. I bought this 22nd August 2023 and at the time here my notes:
Passes 7 long screens on stockpedia. Usually a strong defensive share and pays a healthy dividend. Share price is at a 10 year low, but seems to have tested these lows a few times in recent months. Buying in for a nice dividend and capital appreciation over time. This is an 18 month plus hold targeting 10-15% per year. Risks are high debt and slow down in historic markets.
With dividends as of today I'm 14.8 % up. My original investment thesis stands and I'm happy to see where this is in another 6 months. |
Let's hope the pound keeps falling that's good for FTSE 100 dollar earners. |
May regret it |
Sold out again in morning. |
You have, like I said all overdone, same company as it was Friday. One big buyer Bats with its buybacks until end of 2025, lol |
Just got to be careful tomorrow on any dead cat bounce. |
The summer sale was 2300 |
Also remember Bats same company they were yesterday, but on summer sale price. |
