There is no menthol ban on cigarettes, the FDA has decided to put it on hold. Not sure about the vape flavours. |
If BATS can chip away at the FDA to overturn the menthol flavoured vape ban then that will be good news.I can understand a bubble gum flavour ban and all the flavours that could attract teenagers to start vaping but to get older Newport smokers to switch to less harmful vapes has to be a good idea surely.Who knows what is ever in the minds of the FDA with some of their decision making. |
Added on that initial dip, big tobacco will control the cannabis industry in the years to come, which is a huge global market that has not even started yet |
The cannabis finger in the pie will just grow from here for big tobacco, another cash cow in the making :) |
They do own a stake in a Canadian cannabis business |
I thought Bats had some interest in some cannabis companies, may be wrong. |

Anyway, it's time to just compound with this one at 10% per year, in 5 years the returns will be astronomical for a safe play (not even taking into account the possible capital gain) |

Topaz: Who's left to sell, that is the mystery. Surely everyone that wanted to sell is out already!
Oh, sweet cupcake. Perhaps if you had focused in class instead of indulging in RE, you'd understand a fundamental principle: buying low and selling high. You've got the words down, just in the wrong sequence. Your penchant for buying high and selling low is quite the spectacle. And let's be clear, merely purchasing doesn't guarantee a sound investment, nor does it imply that those with superior education will heed your lead. It seems it's back to tending to prostate massaging for you, doesn't it?

I have been reading Articles for a day or 2 over the past month which some may have missed which may show how BAT will move forward in the coming months/years.
The important issue that many miss is Business Ratings from Fitch and Co. On 26 March 2024, Fitch upgraded BAT to BBB+- Link below
hxxps://www.fitchratings.com/research/corporate-finance/fitch-upgrades-british-american-tobacco-to-bbb-outlook-stable-26-03-2024
I have covered the Portfolio of BATS but in 2013 the company teamed up with Chinese to form CTBAT. This gave greater access to China Market which has over 257 Million smokers. Link below-

To further illustrate if BATS is undervalued there have been some reports over the past 2 weeks underpinning Investment opportunities. Link below

With Buybacks continuing and cancelled this theory should increase the share price. If targets are also met in their new category,11 MARCH 2024. BAT opens £30m Innovation Centre for New Category products in Southampton. They hope to increase Revenue in this sector to £5 Billion by 2025.
Also to add ITC update on the demerger 6 June 2024-
25 April 2024

I hope this helps.

”Tobacco companies breathe easier as menthol cigarette ban gets reprieve” The Biden administration on Friday walked back -- at least temporarily -- its planned ban on menthol cigarettes.
The development was first reported by The Wall Street Journal, which cited sources saying the White House was concerned such a ban might alienate some Black voters. The newspaper noted menthols account for about one-third of all cigarette sales.
A 2022 study found that among Black adults who smoked, 80% of them smoked menthol cigarettes. However, a top Biden administration official downplayed that the about-face was being done for political reasons. HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra said that the proposed rule has generated an abundance of public comments.
"It’s clear that there are still more conversations to have, and that will take significantly more time," he said in a news release.
The most popular menthol cigarette brand in the U.S. is Newport, which is made by R.J. Reynolds, itself owned by British American Tobacco (NYSE:BTI). Others are Kool and Salem.
The most popular cigarette brand in the world, Marlboro, made by Altria (NYSE:MO) in the U.S. and Philip Morris International (NYSE:PM) outside the U.S., also comes in several menthol varieties. Despite today's news, tobacco companies are largely unchanged in Friday trading. That may be because earlier this month, it was reported the administration was looking at pushing the ban until after the November election.

Why are people worried about British American Tobacco the company?
Maybe it is the decreasing market share of Cigarettes in Western markets. This is primarily caused by changing social habits and regulations impacting market share. It seems British American Tobacco has seen this and acted with the Impairment of its USA acquisition in 2017. The impairment is based on 30 years at around £700 million yearly by calculations.
In the meantime, British American Tobacco has turned a profit in its smokeless category in 2023 beating its forecast by 2 years. It has put aside £150 million in Canada towards Cannabis. This is covering your bases if legalized in the coming years in the USA on a larger scale.
Its portfolio across the world seems to be gaining more traction in Africa and India. ITC in India recently overtook BAT on a market cap basis. British American Tobacco owns 25.3% after reducing its position and using the proceeds for Buybacks in 2024/25. In November 2024 ITC Hotels will float and BAT own 17% of the proceeds from the sale will reduce debt and more Buybacks in 2026/27.
British America Tobacco's EBITDA is above 10% which is a good omen going forward. The debt was reduced by £3 Billion in 2023 with a similar outlook through 2024/25. BAT is cash-generative which puts it in a position to move into other markets. This it has done in the past with Argos, Kohl, and Dillard's just to mention a few.
ITC India is a good example of how BATS can diversify into other markets quickly. In the present climate, BATS in the coming years will remain cash generative with Dividend payments covered for the next 2 years or more. With debt coming down, interest rates look likely to fall in the coming 12 months. It may seem Seeking Alpha has the correct outlook for Bats.

#Salver2, interesting, most are aware of the Menthol cigarettes issue, and the potential ban/overturn, but maybe not the scale, quite a result for BATS as the impact would have been significant..
Long here, and built a position since Nov/Dec, looks cracking value for 2300 and the 10% income, planning on holding for a decade and see where we are at the end with the compounding DRIP.. :o) |
