Looks like algorithms are selling, the computers scan for words anything negative or positive, they must of found something negative of course.Still for us 58.8p ex div in the bag tomorrow. Will we fall 58.8p tomorrow going to be interesting. One thing about computer trading, no emotions, greed, fear, Fomo etc.Perhaps that's why some hedgies like them. |
I agree and took a few more today at sub 2400.
Good luck all 👍🏻 |
Interest rates will come down faster than people think, this will then soar when coupled with the buybacks as the yield becomes even more attractive .. |
Missed this update from Jeffries the other day, 3200p target not too bad.https://m.investing.com/news/stock-market-news/british-american-tobacco-maintains-buy-rating-gbp3200-target-93CH-3332918 |
I been calling for buybacks for ages, increases eps and should increase our dividend over time and cancelling shares straight away. |
BATS should save a good amount of money from buying back shares and cancelling before ex div date this Thursday.
The great thing is shorts getting squeezed..... |
I don't know the mechanics of it, but they have started buying and cancelling shares straight way, seems good less shares in circulation I would have thought. |
It only applies if the share price remains low in the coming months if it spikes toward the impairment announcement the case falls apart. The Investor has a mind of when to buy and sell.
Their position falls short on this principle
If a company announces they have a profit warning or falls short of Guidance the share price reflects that news. The Investor sells that position on that news.
It illustrates the US law firms blaming a decision announced on impairment to which BATS reflected over 30 years on their acquisition in 2017 which many analysts agree with.
The class action can be back over 6 years to 2017 but action needs to be proven on false information on the category mentioned by the US firm to which the Investors made their loss. The dividend they may have got plus the share price at the time of the court case showing their capital loss. The period had a lot of bumps in the road where the share price was affected, by Covid, Inflation, law change, and social habits which Bats had no control over.
A scenario -
Just think they are in court saying Investors lost $100,000 on their Investment when they sold. On the proceedings, BATS Lawyer steps up and asks when they sold(ask if they bought back in on a lower price ) and then points out the share price is 10% or more today when they bought, does an open palm expression, and shrugs his/her shoulders at the judge then sits down.
As an Investor, you expect good and bad news. If some people think otherwise well they not thinking straight
To be honest it would be interesting if common sense does exist.

What's the feeling regarding the litigation over taking the impairment charge? The Sue, Grabbit & Runnes over in the States seem to be getting all excited! |
ITC Hotel demerger 2024 - 6 months or fewer to go
In an effort to unlock value and focus on core competencies, ITC Ltd. decided to demerge its hotel business into a separate entity. The board of ITC Ltd. granted in-principle approval for the demerger under a scheme of arrangement.[12] Sanjiv Puri, the CMD of ITC, elaborated that the move is part of a broader strategy for capital raising and debt expansion.[13]
The spin off was confirmed last August 2023 and a 15 month period given. British American Tobacco will hold 17% of the business to which they intend to sell.
Depending on the IPO price and how it performs BAT could rise 1 to 3 Billion from the procedes.
According to the filing, the indicative timeline for listing ITC Hotels is nearly 15 months i.e. probably in November 2024. It is worth mentioning that the scheme of the demerger is subject to necessary approval from shareholders, creditors, stock exchanges, Sebi, NCLT and others

£30 is coming faster than many imagine |
Predictive text messed up my post.Still I'm sure you can work out what I said, lol. |
What I like it's a two buyback program, then I'm guessing after two years sell another stake in ITC, we could be buying back for years to come or a special dividend of course. |
It says this on my A J Bell login:
Due to the clocks changing, until 31 March the US markets will be opening at 1.30pm and closing at 8pm GMT, instead of the usual 2:30pm and 9pm. |
No US markets closed at 8pm.... |
BTI continues to climb in US. Currently 31.07 equivalent 2441p. 45 minutes to close |
Far too often I have seen a special dividend followed by a share consolidation say 9 for 10 to bring the share price back to where it was, and you gain nothing from the payout unfortunately as you lose 10% of your shares for the 10% it drops on XD for the payout..
TATE did a 6 for 7 in May 2022, GSK did a 4 for 5 same year, both caught me.. |
Thanks monty. I'd guessed you might not be a seller.
So, what's wrong with a special dividend? You'd get that into your ISA. OK, on the simple logic of BB's the share price may not rise - but your NOT selling. So what?
If, however the BB raises the share price as your NOT a seller - how does that benefit you?
The rising share price with a static or slightly rising dividend adjusts the yield downwards so makes the stock less tasty for people to buy - other than short term holders.
I don't understand your logic. |
Compounding tax free in Isa I reckon back over 3000p one day, with buybacks, in the meantime collecting massive dividend every 13 weeks, I can't match this anywhere else, so not a seller. |
monty: are you inclined to sell some of your shares in BATS once the share price rises?
Or, are you intending to hold for the tasty dividend - paid four times a year?
I really would like to know your answer. |
Difference here buybacks 1.6 billion pounds and lasts until end of 2025 then share will be cancelled.I prefer this to a special dividend. |
Well buybacks make a lot more sense at £24 than £30-£32 last time they had $2bn to burn a couple of years back.As you can probably tell i'm not a fan of BBs.Just my opinion.IAG blew billions on BBs years back when the share price was x3-x4 higher than it is now and it still rankles with me!!! |
This 2400p big resistance level, I think we will smash through with the buyback program started and ex dividend of 58.8p on Thursday, onwards and upwards and collect our dividend tax free in the isa bag, lol. |
Buy backs will help, but interest rate cuts going forward will benefit this share price a lot i hope. |
BATS buybacks should hopefully squeeze shorters before ex div day on Thursday! |
