Dane Douetil CE of BRE was perplexed at poor share performance... no black hole within the co. Supportive broker notes from UBS and Bear Stearns - Daily Telegraph today.

Apparently recent drop is due to exposure to the $ and sub-prime fears (Daily Telegraph today).

Yes 221.75 my mistake

I should not really advise anyone about oil stocks as I want to buy more if the price drops however if you have a few quid to invest then try FPM

Oh so the price dropped because they are increasing their business base ?
errr ?

I'd guess its more likely that Goldman Sachs dropped a bunch at the end of Nov and are planning to (trying to ) drop some more .

My gut tells me its a buy at just over 2 quid but I need to have a look around at their prospects before I jump in

That surely isn't the only reason for the fall:

"On the second line, Brit Insurance Holdings fell back 24-1/4 at 216-1/2 after the group said it has signed contracts for the launch of Norton Re II, a Bermuda-based reinsurer, with 118.2 mln usd of capital."

Continued fall in the price in the post dealing session. A reassuring statement from the board would not come amiss. I see Goldman Sachs have got rid of an undisclosed no. of shares. Are institutions trying to improve their liquidity by having fire sales?

In for the first time at 211.75 does not seem much downside IMHO

It is rare for insurance underwriters to be taken over. It is more likely that staff who perform underwriting get poached by a rival.

dipped a toe at 225

rsi weak, pointing towards a bounce, as commented, rns's released not indicating any particular bad news

sp possibly just market troubles where then calling a low is difficult, but share price trading extremely low given the usual indicators, p/e, div etc

also a potential takeover at these levels?

They've issued a RNS today so you would have thought they would be obliged to say somehting if there was anything to say. Maybe this is a buying opportunity. Certainly the underlying insurance business should be in a sound state and enjoying rude health.

What I'm worried about is the recent share price movement. Seems overdone again today. Maybe there are noises of losses?

their specialised insurance - so no direct exposure
but ins cos make money out of their investment portfolio (premiums get paid before payouts are made = an investment float), so could be they've lost money in the recent mess
