Just saw your post, completely agree with your thinking, I was laughing when it looked like BP had profited by RDSB hedging at such low oil prices (looks like for 6 months!).
It wasn't great for me as I also hold a lot of RDSB.

It would be great if they could lock in current prices to buy at but I don't think that is the case judging by the constant drift lower. I doubt they will go over 60% of free cash flow but from their presentation it looks like they want to keep this policy all the way to 2025.

Patience is really important, remember this is an evil oily and all ethical people are positioning themselves as far away as possible.
Fund managers are not even willing to put themselves out there and say it is a good buy.

Oil price is higher than in Jan when the share price hit 310p. At the time there was a lot more uncertainty than now. One huge bit of uncertainty was BP's ability to make profits out of the higher oil price when a lot of their profits are made further down the supply chain.
Then came the RNS earlier this month which has been completely ignored. BP managed to trade their way to high cashflow and paid their debt down to target in one quarter instead of 3-4 quarters.

I am expecting everyone to notice next week when the figures are laid out more clearly. Dividends + buybacks should be well over 10% return to investors this year.

This is all working on oil staying around $60-$65, if there is a boom leading to supply shortages it would be a bonus on top.

DYOR etc as I must be missing something or calculated wrong. I bought more today at 300p as I love buying £1 coins at 80p.

A few more for the bottom draw just now. BP never declare trading results but the pointer was provided in the statement that the very strong business performance in the first quarter 2021 was driven by trading. I reckon on circa 3 Billion + as it was flagged by Looney that BP had bet on a cold winter in the US. I suspect Shell was on the other side of the bet as it was noted in their statement that trading contribution is expected to be significantly below average.

Still pretty nailed on that buybacks will re-start... again reckon on north of 60% free cash .... will plump for 70%....

If I was Looney I would be telling my trading guys to start buying call options now, just like that asian whale guy did in the last year when buying up tech stocks... just let the options expire and take the stock at a fixed price...

All will be clear this time next week, but in my book there is far more scope for this share to rise than fall..

My personal feelings is at these prices it's worth building up your stake. If Opec + can keep a lid on production as not to crash the price again it should come good for us share holders at some point. Also this bloody pandemic is not helping. It will dissappear eventually.

Seems to be gravitating at 300 . Can't help getting the feeling that good news is not driving it forward fast enough eg the oil price. However we only need a little negativity and it will plummet! Market skepticism perhaps ?

It all depends if you are looking at things as an income investor or seeking capital growth. Of course if stock is discounted it makes sense to buyback, but upping the dividend would restore the share price much quicker.

Keep wondering how different things would be without the near £50B cost of the Deepwater Horizon disaster. Are payments nearly complete, so we have £5B a year to spend on other things? Who got all the dough?

Pleased to read over the weekend BP has finally determined to quit flaring natural gas while exploiting the shale oil assets Looney acquired from BHP in the Permian Basin, a no-brainer to capture the gas to put it to good use. An utterly filthy operation, flaring and venting greenhouse gases the very worst by-activity, it would be hard to regard BP as anything approaching green until it solves this.
