13/11/2015 12:05 | DR S - I upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 10 - free to users & discovered that it is both faster & more robust. I use Google for internet access - perhaps it may pay you to do the same !! Good website where you can read reviews: hxxp://www.cnet.com/ | jdb2005
13/11/2015 09:44 | Thank-you DD. An education, but prefer twister to pivot point. (How us old gits got aquainted with girls decades ago ;-) BB problem: I use win7 and firefox browser. I sometimes find this BB uses flash plugins which cause browser to lock up. Needs reboot rather than 'end tasl' to clear. Disabling the plugin via settings also disables likes of google finance charts, so not a solution. Do you guys have same problem? Back to business. GFRD AGM: "The challenges of cost and availability of labour and materials are continuing to moderate across all our businesses." ...so confirming it is still a sector problem, but IMO the only fly in the ointment, and a symptom of growth. World indices red overnight, so my optimism for finishing the week on a high may be a tall order. :-( | dr_smith
13/11/2015 09:15 | Crest Nicholson topping the Builders chart this morning. BVS has some catching up required. Back at beginning of August 2015 BVS reached 1200 - may have to wait a while to see that again !! | jdb2005
13/11/2015 09:06 | Jdb,No probs, but it was for DR_S :)GLDD | discodave4
13/11/2015 08:52 | See Former Northern Rock mortgages have been sold this morning - from BBC Business News: The government has sold £13bn of former Northern Rock mortgages that taxpayers acquired during the financial crisis. The portfolio is being sold by UK Asset Resolution (UKAR) to Cerberus and the sale is thought to be the largest financial asset sale by a European government. UKAR is selling the mortgages for £280m more than their book value . The government has now sold more than 85% of the assets of Northern Rock. The lender collapsed in 2007 and marked the start of the financial crisis. Chancellor George Osborne said: "We are now clear that taxpayers will get back more money from Northern Rock than they were forced to put in during the financial crisis. | jdb2005
13/11/2015 08:48 | DD - use my own but thanks DD. Prediction is BVS to reach 965 if Dow recovers 100pts plus. If we see only 50pts gained we will be at 959pts. | jdb2005
12/11/2015 19:00 | DRS,A pivot table calculator if you want a play!hTTp://www.pivo | discodave4
12/11/2015 18:37 | Thank-you for explaining Jdb. | dr_smith
12/11/2015 17:51 | DR S - these pivot pts show where likely support & resistance will be. Many traders rely on them so if you watch you will see them react as each one is reached/crossed. Not rocket science but worth following. Pivot - mid pt is arrived at by taking the previous day's high pt the low pt and the share price at close of day. Then you divide the total by 3. I agree though that US markets & Far East can throw a spanner in the works !! | jdb2005
12/11/2015 17:40 | Sorry Jdb, I don't understand the pivot references, I assume that is chartist notation, but lost on me. I don't believe in hocus pocus, touch wood. ;-) Well, Friday tomorrow, so lets hope we go out with a bang, but US no doubt dithering and causing volatility over a potential possible maybe poxy 0.5% rise..sometime, Jeeez... All of this has no effect on UK housing demand, so not too fussed. IMO :-) | dr_smith
12/11/2015 17:12 | DR S - pivots for tomorrow: R2 = 984 R1 = 971 Pivot = 960 S1 = 947 S2 = 936. Can see MMs dropping the stock to 950 then find buyers take it back up to 972. Not sure I believe all this as US Dow has to finish tonight above 17550 for it to happen as indicated above. | jdb2005
12/11/2015 15:54 | I'll take your word for it. I've got my eyes closed. ;-) If I squint I can see FTSE100 down 1.66% to 6192. 7 months ago it was >7000 and I thought the economy was better since then, and IIRC, a post election conservative win usually means FTSE climbs. Oh well, head back in the sand for now. | dr_smith
12/11/2015 15:29 | Did not expect to be able to buy at 949 today. But sector is half up & half down. | jdb2005
12/11/2015 10:45 | Topsy Turvy start with BVS at one stage 972 to sell - now 962. Crest Nicholson had been tipped as Conviction Buy by Goldman Sachs. | jdb2005
12/11/2015 07:52 | Property will become more unaffordable according to RICs: Unless Govt. does something to stimulate the market. The number of homes put on the market has fallen every month since February. "The legacy of the drop in new build following the onset of the global financial crisis is now really hitting home, with both the sales and letting markets continuing to show demand outstripping supply on a month by month basis," said Simon Rubinsohn, chief economist at Rics. "If the five-year projections from members regarding the outlook for both prices and rents is anything to go by, property is set to become even more unaffordable going forward making the government's focus of boosting the delivery of new homes absolutely critical. | jdb2005
11/11/2015 18:02 | Jdb: Slight? You must be watching with instruments as sensitive as a seismograph. ;-) Often interesting to watch UK market changes after US market opens. "The Market Maker's Edge" - Would you say it is directly relevant to the UK/FTSE investor? Will I have to lay miles of fibre optic cable between my house and the City? ;-) | dr_smith
11/11/2015 14:58 | Seeing a slight improvement in Builders stock now. | jdb2005
11/11/2015 14:23 | DR S - Good book to read about MMs tactics : "The Market Maker's Edge" by Josh Lukeman. Cost £14.99 as paperback. | jdb2005
11/11/2015 11:21 | Jdb - "Foundation" pun not intended, good spot. It was cancelled last Fri, now cancelled this Fri as heavy rain forecast. It is only 5 sq metres, I am glad it's not my day job! Re builders down, I am unfamiliar with the extent MM's can influence (though I have read "Flash Boys" re US manipulation). I can only take optimistic view that likes of FTSE100 unit trusts have to sell down on them and buy 'losers' to keep the spread uniform. | dr_smith
11/11/2015 11:15 | Average house price now £205k. Shortage of houses in South of England. Yet traders seem to think Builders are over-valued !! Bit of fun - changes needed to the Monopoly board: | jdb2005
11/11/2015 10:56 | See on watchlist all 7 Builders now in the red - low volume traded in BVS so MMs can play around to generate business. | jdb2005
11/11/2015 10:40 | Yes how is your foundation going - need new garage before the bad weather !! | jdb2005
11/11/2015 10:32 | Jdb, I confess I bought because market is down on builders at moment, I didn't spot today was BDEV results day. I had same rationale this a.m. that lack of rise likely due in part to short termers buying until results day. BDEV: "Our targeted recruitment programme has delivered a further 250 new apprentices, graduates and trainees to the business. " That amused me, as I imagined shiny young graduates laying bricks in the rain. "just hope they have good supervision !!" My thoughts exactly Jdb: They are presumably destined as project/site managers, so hope they are pulled through alongside experienced old hands before being let loose on their own. We see it so much in other businesses where jobs are de-skilled or old timers replaced with lower cost newcomers, but when something different to the norm happens, they don't have the experience to do their job effectively. So hope our concerns are without foundation. | dr_smith
11/11/2015 09:59 | DR S - surprised BDEV has not moved higher after results but some will sell on news so don't worry it will be ok. Good move on their behalf to recruit new trainees plumbers, electricians, etc just hope they have good supervision !! | jdb2005
11/11/2015 09:46 | I bought BDEV and TW. yesterday, as already overloaded with BVS and a few other builders. Actually overloaded on sector level but not many other sectors with such well defined basics of supply/demand and cost (int rate) with forward vision of 2 + years. | dr_smith |
