28/9/2004 18:47 | I thing the merger between iceland BFG & SOF could be on. Why else would sof fall. | bigface
28/9/2004 10:42 | Bigface holding stock BFP Now turning some attention to SOF Just started buying in at a fraction over 129. Could those from Ireland who bought up Budgens be looking. Keep Crowing | old crow
28/9/2004 09:47 | Odds of merging Somerfield and Iceland stores are small... it's more likely they'll auction off stores to other chains at big premiums to NAV. Given the current share price, the existing management must surely consider doing this too. | factsonly
27/9/2004 22:36 | Turnover = buying power in the industry - it is crucial to profitability. Good point though, but not that relevant in the circumstances. | bigface
26/9/2004 22:41 | Old but relevent "Turnover is vanity profits are sanity" | madgooner
26/9/2004 20:12 | Yes kingdwg I saw that too - wishful thinking obviously, but wouldn't you think Wallmart/Asda waould just gobble that turnover up and turm iceland into Tesco metro style stores in short order. They could then sell Booker on to pay for it. Amall change for Wallmart. Bauger will snap this up - if I were him I I would get it in the bag now get Malcolm Walker on Board then try to but sof for a 20% premium over 130p. This strategy has a chance. In fact, if it doesn't happen soon, I am writing to my bank manager and Malcolm walker myself. | bigface
26/9/2004 19:56 | his new venture is going well { cooltrader }and he needs more stores!! | halogen
26/9/2004 19:06 | I see they also came up in the new IC Sales to market cap portfolio this week. Top of the list at 18.233 ratio. | kingdwg
26/9/2004 18:39 | MW still holds a substantial block of stock. Hasving set Iceland up from nothing in the 70's I think Malcolm Walker deserves his money frankly, but I understand the feelings of some if they have hel from 350p - MW could help us get a littler more for our stock if he takes Iceland on. It won't get us anywhere now by running down a genius who is far too good looking to have been a supermarket boss. | bigface
26/9/2004 16:36 | Impressive post No one in their right mind would believe he had no inkling As co founder what would you do after all that work. Tell truth. When it comes to money who can you trust. Keep Crowing | old crow
26/9/2004 13:33 | Malcolm Walker - the guy is a Shyster ! | 25guilderbag
26/9/2004 13:13 | Bigface Could BFP and SOF be influenced by SBRY in the morning. Keep Crowing | old crow
26/9/2004 12:46 | Thanks Kingdwg - What a good idea! | bigface
26/9/2004 12:22 | Baugur, which owns a small stake in Somerfield, discussed merging the two chains. However, Von Spreckelsen is said not to be keen on the idea. From today's Times | kingdwg
25/9/2004 13:50 | Lets hear it for Malcolm | caribbean
25/9/2004 13:49 | nice one bigface | caribbean
25/9/2004 01:15 | Imagine if the Bauger Bid fails - all that good old Bill Grimsby needs to do is offer malcolm the job of running Iceland. Malcolm (30 years continuous growth) Walker running Iceland would put the Company back at 125p immediately - Thanks for the Cod meal tip. I'll pop down and sample myself, may try one of their Iceland Baugers | bigface
24/9/2004 23:17 | That recommendation is worth 110p Old Crow. There I go sounding grateful for 110p ! There picking our pockets. Seriously the products are great, wife has been feeding me on them for 25 years, and at 10% discount. | caribbean
24/9/2004 18:04 | Bigface dont recall saying sell SOF at 100p. Anyhow thought you might be interested in the following Both my wife and myself enjoy eating Cod in butter sauce with creamed potato and always bought from Marks & Spencer the last two we sampled the Cod was appalling. Having said that during a visit to our local Iceland store my wife reluctantly tried their brand, the result was the Cod and sauce was realy good quality not quite the quantity of fish but much cheaper than Marks. Think we will have to venture more on BFP products. Keep Crowing | old crow
24/9/2004 17:55 | Good luck with this bigface. Says I, who sold SOF at 100p. | farsight
24/9/2004 17:43 | Was it the one whoadvised to sell SOF at 100p? Nothing ventured nothing gained, but I take your point and thank you for your concern (seriously) IC advise holding so they have taken my advice! | bigface
24/9/2004 10:41 | OK Bigface A business friend once told me on any deal, it's not how much you can make but how much you can loose. Having said that if you can take any possible down turn then you dont have a problem. Keep Crowing | old crow
24/9/2004 10:25 | Just bought as i said i would - holding massively now. | bigface
24/9/2004 08:42 | I think Due Diligence will last 4-8 weeks. It'll take the due diligence team ages quizzing snr and financial mgt across the many companies within group... at the same time giving Malc W more time to sort out his financing and pre-cherry picking stores for resale. | factsonly
24/9/2004 08:04 | Agreed, then in comes the offer 105-108 and all think well that's not to bad. Keep Crowing | old crow |
