Looks like Banks and Gardener have sold out to these guys.

Cant understand why B & G would sell immediately prior to year end ? May be read as negative, although I read them buying as positive and expected the share price to go north.

Perhaps they are just as clueless as the rest of us lol.

US Concedes Defeat in WTO Online Gambling Case with Antigua

Antigua gains support from EU, Brazil and India delegations in online gambling WTO case between Antigua and USA: Claims filed against the US for withdrawal of commitment could run to many billions of dollars

At a meeting of the World Trade Organization held today, the United States conceded defeat in its long-running battle with the small Caribbean nation of Antigua and Barbuda and announced it would not be appealing the most recent adverse decision rendered by a WTO dispute panel.
As expected, however, the United States announced that it had initiated action to withdraw its treaty obligations with respect to gambling and betting services in an attempt to preclude Antigua and other nations from capitalizing on the WTO decisions in favour of Antigua.

In a statement delivered to the WTO membership today, Antigua's Ambassador to the WTO, Dr John W. Ashe, stated that this tactic was not going to work and that Antigua would press on with its remedies at the WTO: "There is something clearly wrong with the concept that after a long, difficult struggle covering years of dispute resolution at the WTO an offending member could ultimately avoid the consequences of its loss by withdrawing the commitment that gave rise to the claim in the first place. As far as we are concerned, our dispute has been resolved and the United States remains obligated to comply," said Dr Ashe.

At the meeting, the delegation of Brazil declared its unequivocal support of the Antiguan position, making clear that the actions of the United States in the case threaten the integrity of the entire dispute resolution system, particularly with respect to small and developing countries. India expressed similar concerns while the European Union noted its disappointment that the United States had failed to engage Antigua and other concerned countries over a reasoned approach to the provision of these services.

The US action to withdraw its commitment now leaves it open to claims for damages from all WTO members who may consider themselves adversely affected by the withdrawal. Under WTO procedures, any member can file a claim, all of which must either be resolved by agreement or arbitrated before the United States can actually withdraw the commitment. These claims could potentially run into many billions of dollars of trade concessions that US trading partners could impose against the United States in virtually any sector, a result that could see US producers of goods and services having nothing at all to do with gaming facing large trade barriers from American trading partners such as the European Union.

"While we will not know until the filing deadline in mid-June," said Mark Mendel, Antigua's legal advisor in the case. "We have heard rumblings that substantial trading partners such as the EU are seriously considering filing claims for compensatory adjustments. The potential adverse impact upon completely unrelated American business interests could be massive."

In his presentation to the WTO today, Dr Ashe expressed his particular disappointment that the United States had not seen fit to negotiate with the Antiguan government over any compromise, despite Antigua's belief that a compromise was possible. "In a system that is replete with references to good faith, fair dealing and cooperative resolution of disagreements, it is the failure of the United States to engage with Antigua that is most troubling," said Dr Ashe. "We are unable to understand why there was no effort to find some middle ground. We ourselves were and remain ready to find a fair and reasonable solution. But we need the other side to show up to do so

It was good to see the buyers back in control today.First look indicated that there were still a few sellers left but as the day progressed the buyers came back. The charts actually now look quite bullish with all the indicators turning positive...

If the trend continues then we could be looking at a good gain in the share price over the coming months. As has been mentioned other gaming stocks have recovered but BET is still waiting to benefit from the turnaround.

Pejtr,
Just general lack of interest in my view causing the drift down lately and no news for 3 months, I believe they have been taking steps to cut costs and we are close to the tipping point in terms of profitability.
I take comfort that the largest shareholder Burnbrae (50%)has showed unwaivering support and as far as I'm aware has not sold a single share, and are content to continue to increase their %. Small free float.
Do a bit or research on Jim Mellon - he's no mug.
Last cash raised was a piddling £300,000 which indicates how close we are.

Sea7,
Thanks for the link, very positive showing their now addressing a major gap in their offerings. Could be trialing this to judge how much these new poker customers will start use our existing products as well.

hello td, nice new bb,

I have been a holder of bet for some months, im looking forward to an update as im sure this will be of a positive nature, which will reflect in the share price This business, after moving in to profitability (at ebitda level) took a bit of a hit in its sp, however, this i find, is usually the case when a company reports first profits as it tends to make the shares look expensive. When the next update comes out (year end) i expect to see improvement on margins etc.

If you follow this link...

you will find a write up on bet.

An interesting excerpt from it is:-

Paddypower are very good at marketing. Maybe because they have the cash and a diverse product offering.

BET may now have the cash following the cost-saving and increased revenues. Hopefully their marketing will now improve. They need to get multi-player games ontheir sports book/ casino site e.g. poker, mahjong etc

Could grow very quickly, providing management get a move on !

good news from paddypower..
Our expansion into new businesses continues and we anticiate launching
paddypowertrader.com, an online financial spread betting business, during the
summer. Paddy Power Trader will market spread betting opportunities on equities,
commodities and indices with a differentiating emphasis on education, value and,
of course, entertainment.

Given the substantial ongoing investment to exploit growth opportunities in both
our retail and non retail divisions, the Group remains confident about its
future growth prospects. With the benefit of the favourable sporting results in
the first 20 weeks, the Group now expects operating profit of approximately Euro58m
in 2007, assuming those sporting results are not offset by an unfavourable run
over the remainder of the year, and continued turnover growth in line with our
expectations. This result would represent underlying operating profit growth
compared to 2006 of approximately 27% or 8% above the current consensus market
forecast."

I'm new to this one.

The insider buys make this look interesting... but I have some questions... if anybody could shed some light on these --

- what's the matter with margins? If I look at eg LNG (Betshop), I see operating margins that are signicantly higher. What has BET been doing? Are they just a dog?
Is there any real potential for improvement here?

- continuing losses have led to several capital increases. does anybody have any idea on cash flows in the future... more specifically: shall we see another share issue one of these days?

- share price has shot up and then went down several times the past years. where's the volatility coming from?

thanks

Look at the links between the two individuals who recently bought in notifiable amounts and the board. I liked BET before but that clinched it for me. After a suitably respectable interval passes I think this will fly.
